I need help with my cruise control on a 2004 Alhambra 1.9TDi SE.
When I slide the switch on the stalk the green cruise light comes on but I cannot get it to work. I have checked the clutch and brake pedal switches and cleaned/checked the stalk switch - all OK.

Is there anything else to check? Does it have any fuses and if so which ones?

Thanks.

Yes, I have tried that at about 35 (I assume you press the 'set' button, although I have tried both). I don't have a handbook and on my vectra the green light only came on when the cruise was engaged so the light on all the time confused me. I may have to get it plugged into a computer sometime to see if there's any faults on the system.

Anyone know where the cruise module is located - thinking about unplugging it to see if it needs resetting - don't want to disconnet battery as I don't have a radio code!!

Hi

Is the vacuum pump working as this system is operated on vacuum. Not sure where the pump is located on 04 model, on earlier madels it is behind the nearside indicator lamp and it is not unknown for the pipe to break just where it enters the pump. On my 99 model you flick the switch over to set when you reach the speed you require and this speed is then held, you can then increase the speed by pushing the switch on the column inwards ( I think it goes up in approx 2 mph incriments ). Once you put your foot on the clutch or brake or flick the switch back over then the system is reverted to manual operation, but if you then push the switch back over to resume it will go back to the speed that you set it to. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info.

I've had a look but cannot see anything behind the indicator. I've looked elsewhere but cannot see anything that may be a vacuum pump - I assume there is at least one on there for the brakes atleast. I'll have another look later.

Finally got cruise control working - cleaned stalk contacts with wire wool and bent them down. Took brake switch apart and gave a good clean. One of these sorted the problem - I think it was the stalk as sometimes it doesn't work first time and it disengages sometimes when I increase/decrease the speed with the buttons.

Cruise stopped working again so I completly stripped the stalk and found 3 strips of copper in the ribbon cable had snapped just at the end of the stalk. The times the cruise worked must have been when the snapped pieces were making contact but any movement of the stalk broke the contact and therefore the cruise dropped out.

I soldered some wire from one end to the other to bypass the ribbon for these 3 strips and now it is spot on. Don't know if putting the indicators on will snap the wire eventually - will have to wait and see.
