This may help someone out?
My Cup holder would not open into the cab
, so I decided to do the below before coughing up £20 for a new one.
Part 1 - Take out the centre shelf and CD palyer ( Also the CD player metal holder). You should now see four Torx screws (2 on both sides). Now carefully with slight pressure prise the console surround away from the Dash. You should now be able to see another two Torx screws holding the cup holder/airbag button Part to the centre console surround. Also undo the three cable connectors to the rear of this, 1 being the Airbag button e.t.c (Remember the order). Now the cup holder should still open, but not by its own accord, so pull the cup holder door open, You now must take the Airbag button off first, Now you can remove the Cup holder (Looks like a very well made piece of kit, you will be
).
Part 2 - There are six side clips holding the Cup holder together. On a flat service ( Kitchen table if your misses won't mind) take a very small flat headed screwdriver and VERY carefully prise open them one by one (start from the rear two and work forward). Now you have three parts, The cup holder, The top platic with the cog track and the botom plastic with the spring(roll of metal) attached. Now inspect all parts, The spring should have tension, the cog on the the cup holder should turn freely.
Right, now wipe away all the crappy old grease from the cup holder, top and bottom plastics. Now take some silicone grease lubricant (Any car/hardware shop will have some)and give a thick coating to the top and bottom plastics where there will be friction i.e the runners, heavily coat the Cog track and the the Cog itself, Also for luck give a quick layer both sides of the cup holder. Now put back together, place the cup holder in to the cog runner plastic and then place the spring section on top (Can be a pain in the a
), make sure its all alligned and press back together.
You should now have one working Cup Holder
Now repeat part 1 to put your pride and joy back together.
Hope this helps someone out there.![Cool [B)] [B)]](/forums/styles/seatcupra/oldforumsmileys/shades.gif)
