Guys,

Just after some info on gearboxes of the mk3 Cupra.

I havs done a search and read quite a lot of info.

From the looks of it the problems come in when power is high 250bhp+

Normally 3rd sychro(sp) goes first.

I had a couple of times yesterday when mine struggled to go into 3rd but eventually it went in and all has been good since.

2002 model.
AUP engine.
02J box.
Done 60K

Firstly, should I have concerns?

I only brought the car yesterday so I may be worrying over nothing. It wouldn't go in tho. Tried 2 or 3 times and just revved but then went in nicely and has done since.

Not really booted it as I'm a easy driver really.

Secondly, if the worst does happen (touch wood) can someone give me an idea on cost of:

Replacement?
Where to buy?
fitting?
Refurb?

Thanks guys. Just want to cover bases and start saving if needed lol

If not abused the 02j should be ok for 350bhp+ if not nearly 400bhp. Not many big turbo cars on here that are between 300bhp and 350bhp have had problems that I have seen although they arent the strongest boxes. If there is any clipping into gears like you are saying start saving though as it will go. Second hand box can be got for £300 upwards or a rebuild depending on damage and wheter you do it before or after its totally gone.

Ok. Thanks mate

Who would do rebuilds? Just so I can ask for a quote. Better to do now surely than after it has gone pop (if going to go pop lol)

Any gearbox specialist should be able to do it but have a look on at the sponsors on here to find one near you and ask. Would be better to do it before it goes yes. A rebuild might cost more than getting another used box and fitting but at least its a known quantity if its been rebuilt.

Cool mate, thanks again.

It may just be me TBH as I went for a drive last night for about hour and a half and no problems.

Neither hot or cold.

May be the change of car (had 1.4 mk6 Fiesta)

I'll get some prices just in case.
