Cupra 150TDI Noisy turbo

Hi,

I've been to JBS today and James pointed out that he though the noise from my turbo was excessive. He described it as though it sounded like it had an induction kit on it (which it doesn't).

When accelerating it makes a loud sucking in noise, and if you lift of you get a "woosh" sound. It has done this since I bought it.

Confusing thing is I just blagged a test drive in an 05 plate Cupra 150 (mines a 54 plate) and it sounded exactly the same.

The only reason I'm worrying is that he said my air flow reading was down, and thought before I spend money I should investigate the noise as it might not be the MAF, maybe a fault with the turbo instead.

Anyone got advice?

Thanks.
Dae

PS - not too expensive please - I just spent £400 on a new clutch after 12k as warranty wouldn't pay for it

Same here. My 54 plate 150 sounds just as you describe. I ll be honest and say that when I bought her in feb I didnt think it would be as noticable as it is. Im not complaining, mind!

Thanks guys - makes me feel a whole lot better.

Any idea on the low air reading - could I get a new MAF under warranty and what reason would I give them for booking it in. Would they complain about the green cotton panel filter?

cheers.

No idea about the filter but i would say if it where me of course u can get it booked in for warranty work, i doubt they would notice the filter tbh. Just ring up and say it feels dog slow now and again dont mention the maf atall as they imo get weird when u try and show an incling of knowing what u are doing. Just say its happens now and again, they will run the vag thoruhg it and if its the maf i cant see any other outcome other than a warranty claim unless u are chipped.

My 55 plate FR also does this, I think it sounds good also, looking forward to the better weather so I can drive with the windows down listening to it :)

I think yours is probably fine looking at the responses here.
