Hi guys,

Considering getting either a Cupra or a Polo GTI, but there's been a lot of bad noise over DSG gearboxes from 2011 and earlier. I read that VW even had to extend an official apology and extend warranty by 10 (ten!) years in China, and by 5 in Russia as well. Nothing in Europe, however.

Anyway, I'm looking for people with good or bad experiences with the DSG box on the 2012, please post here if you can =]

only good experience from me. love it to pieces. my only gripe is that its a bit rattly but thats just a normal characteristic with these.

@ adamb87 - how far have you driven it? also, the rattling was what was wrong with the 2011- and earlier ones, is it significant? As far as I have heard, the rattling was fairly violent in some of the ones that had problems. Also I've been hearing the dsg on these 180hp engines seems to have a lifespan of ~2 years, but it's just based on rumours and whine, so would love to hear something more from someone who knows what they are talking about.

@ Jay1990 - How far have you driven it? Here is the link: http://www.indiancarsbikes.in/cars/...tic-gearboxes-russia-5-years150000-kms-60760/

mine has covered 32000 miles with no problems bar a judder which got fixed with an update. it has been put through its paces often and its been fine. it rattles because its a dry box. they all do this.

@ great_khan - I agree. I've been driving a 2009 Touran with a dsg box, it has gone over 50k miles and there is absolutely no rattle.

Mine doesn't rattle a lot. It's worst in 2nd gear when slowing down it makes a noise sort of like a mug rolling down a hill sometimes.

Mine is a 59 plate ( one of the early cupras) and if I'm totaly honest I don't know what rattle people are talking about is it when accelerating hard or just generaly ? My experience of the dsg box is all good, its my first auto and I love it

I'm in the exact same boat, 59 plate cupra and so far there's been no problem at all, you can hardly tell its changing gear if you're smoothly accelerating.

This whole rattle thing....it's a gear box at the end of the day with metal moving very quickly slotting into each other, there's going to be some noise. In comparison to a normal manual box, it's like a daisy coughing!

Besides, the rather loud bit up front drowns anything else out :D

The rattle is apparently one of the clutches being held till its needed. Totally normal I've been told.

So far the dsg has been flawless and very good to me.

I've got a 61 plate boc, 5000miles, no problems and usually there's a slight judder or rattle when in second coming upto a roundabout for example and its clean so you put our foot on the accelerator and it kind of clunks for a split second but nothing worrying I don't think

59 plate Boc
covered 44,000 miles now

No problems with DSG

proberly could hear slight noices when slowing down in 2nd

But it's the Norm :)

@ WJs - 6 speed

@ all - thanks for some good feedback here, I am now less worried about the dsg =]
