Most 280's are running closer to 300bhp anyway so I doubt there is very little in it.

Yes so I heard, another forum member mentioned on here that they compared their Cupra 280 against the S3/R forgot which and found that the ECU files are identical and seeing that their bare the same mechanicals underneath; the 280 therefore is just marketing I believe, something VW are good at.

All the marketing bumf just starts talking about CUPRA rather than something specific about the 290.

I read it as there is differences between the 290 and 280 varients, not least to improve on its lap times to recapture the FWD hatch title its lost recently. Awesome spec and car for the money btw.

There is a modification of the exhaust, so it sounds better...

They have probably just started fitting the Golf R style exhaust rather than Golf GTI style.

I was actually looking to order the Cupra 280 pretty soon, do you think it would be built as a Cupra 290, or would they still build the 280 in around 8 weeks?

Or is it likely that to get a Cupra 290, you'd have to wait until they discontinued the 280?

Week 45 the rebranded cupra 290 build starts apparently so as we're in 37 I would imagine all.orders now are 290. Hence press release from Seat UK

It can! I have/had no problem with it when standard. Barely an issue with the tuning box on it in the dry.

Internal documents for Seat Sweden says week 49 for the transition. But still all cars ordered from like 3 weeks ago will be 290.
