Well here in the Netherlands sales of the Cupra went far beyond all expectation and they sold 3 x more as expected.
Of course many wanted to have it OBD tuned and all the cars that were on the rolling road at different tuners have proven to have around 300 Ps stock.
With big downpipe with sportscat and full miltek they achieve 395 Hp and 465 Nm of torque.(stage 2).
Some guys compared the stock mapping files used for the Cupra and the S3 and they didn't find any differences.
So take all the conclusions you want.

Exactly what I've been saying for a year

What ever the next RR session provides will round it up or down to the nearest 10. so if it was xx6 then it will go up, if it makes xx4 then down. So 376 would become 380. because 376 is 380ps anyway and the 280ps is actually 276bhp.

I would but I really can't wait any longer as my company car is going back in November. I read somewhere else on the forum that the 290 is going in to production from week 44. No idea where they got that info from but if it is true I will be pleased. For resale values as much as anything. Went on an Audi experience day yesterday and drove the RS3 and RS6 on unaccompanied test drives and oh my god were they amazing... Really made me consider cancelling the Cupra. And then I woke up and realised that I couldn't afford either.

Cancel the order

I have just cancelled the order of my Midnight Black Cupra ST due to the ridiculous lead times of the standard wheels and changed it to a Monsoon Grey with Black Line. It gave me a chance to add other goodies that I changed my mind on as well such as reversing camera and ACC.

When I asked whether it was the 290 version that I would now be receiving I was told the following by my dealer:

"Regards the 290ps, there is no date of when this car is going into production. I have just called SEAT and this is the information they have given me. However, if the cars build week falls into the date change then the car will be automatically upgraded to the 290ps without any additional cost to yourself. So, it would be the 280 that I will have to order as there is no option to build the 290 at this time."

Fingers crossed I get the 290 despite there not being any noticeable difference, but I am sure it will help resale value.

Could I ask what information you need to provide for Seat to advise you on your exact build date?

Cheers

Just had a chat with dealership and Andrew is correct. Just a mild remap and that's makes it a 290

Sorry, but i do not believe that. The ECU software on the 280 is the same as the ECU software on the Golf R and S3. The ECU software on the 290 remains the same. The extra 10 PS is nothing but a marketing ploy. They could call it the 300 if they wanted because it is the same as the Golf R and S3. By using the same software they have simply saved themselves time and money and simplified their launch.

On the 4th of September I tweeted them a week after ordering the car and asked how I could find out. Someone from Seat UK then contacted me and was kind of helpful explaining that because of the standard wheels I would not get the car until March and that a build week would not be given until a week before the car goes into production. I then cancelled that order and reordered in a different colour with the black line to reduce the lead times. I then got another call from Seat UK to say they could see my new order and that it would be built in week 44 and that it would have been week 40 but the reversing camera has added 4 weeks. I then said I would remove the camera in that case then and retrofit it to which he then told me that it would make no difference and that the car would still be built week 44 so I kept it. Week 44 is W/C October 26th and I was told my car would be delivered mid to late December. I don't see how it takes two months so fingers crossed it will be early as other people say to allow about 3 weeks for it to leave Spain and get to dealer and I can't imagine it takes 5 weeks to build.

So to answer your question they just need your order details from the dealer.

It has got to be a mod remap as the 290 has 286 bhp while ours have 276

I think your missing the point, there are members on this forum who have had their cars on Dynos and they for the most part have read in excess of 300 in modified.

The 290 branding is nothing more than branding, other than the replacement exhaust, which may make it squeeze a few more bhp.

Bang on! I wish some people would read

The ECU software on the 280 is the SAME as the 290. There is no difference. It's all branding.
