Apologises if this has been discussed before.... however would someone be able to provide the width of the cupra 300 front disc brake and calliper in cm?

Or better still would these 17” alloys fit over the cupra brakes?

I’m trying to source some winter tyres and alloys. I have a spare set of cupra alloys but 19” winter tyres are working out to be £600. While the 17” are a lot cheaper in the long run.

Car Length In Front
341mm for the discs, but it’s more the caliper additional width you need.

I think the Skoda Octavia VRS abroad came with 17” wheels in some countries, and they had the same brake and calipers.

I had some 17" Audi TT wheels that I was planning to use for winters.

They don't clear the brakes on my Cupra 4drive.

I was surprised as I used to use them on a TTS which also have 340mm discs.

Im using a set of 17" OZ aftermarket alloys under my ST300 4drive, its a real tight fit but can manage, so no worries with a set of OEM 17" as far as the offset is correct.

I think the wheel design is the factor also.

Yes, the optional Brembo brakes dont take small alloys, but they can be used with the standard Cupra ones.

I snapped up a set of Skoda 17" wheels for the same reason. They were 17x8 inch. PCD 5 x 112. ET =47.
They look like these ones:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A6-...009086?hash=item4b59ac443e:g:2D0AAOSwcapcJ29s

Fitted over the std 300 Cupra calipers by about 3/4mm, but won't fit over the Brembo upgrade calipers.
There's loads of VAG family wheels in the same dimensions

Those are the same dimensions as the ones I sold because they didn't fit.

It was the wheel weights that hit the caliper as opposed to the actual rim.

I think the lesson is that it's very tight with 17" wheels so you really need to try them to be sure!

Morning all thanks for the feedback....

Ive had a look in SEAT Tyre and alloy manual cheers @paddy6789 Apprently the above alloy fits the cupra.

My dilema is the following though...

I have another set of 19" alloys that I will be using for summer, so I am left with the standard Cupra 19" alloys for winter tyres however the price of the tyres are higher, hence my decision to try and go 17". However its working out the same price to buy 19" tyres as it is to buy another set of alloys and winter tyres.

So the following questions are

How many miles are people getting out of a set of winters?

19" vs 17"?

Is it a bad idea to run diamond cut wheels through the winter?

I've narrowed the choice down to the following tyres, has anyone had any experience with any of them?

Nexen winguard sport 2 235/35 R19 91W (swaying towards however wet performance isn't great)

Nokian WR D4 235/35 R19 91W

Hankook winter i*cept evo2 W320 235/35 R19 91W

TIA

Actually the new Hankook studded tyres are high rated, so i I think the studdeless ones are good too. And they say that the studded ones last much longer than the studdeless ones.

R19 tyre prices are much higher but if you already have the second set of alloys and have to buy the 17” anyway, I would run the 19”.

About the diamond cut part, im not shure is there any damage can be done more than with the standard painted alloys. Ive ceramic coated my alloys, think that will help much as the contaminants cant stuck so easily. Problem what I have seen is the black part of the alloy, ive done only 7000km before I changed to winter set, and there was so much stone chip damages inside the alloys.

Your decision is based on if you need to keep the standard 19” Cupra alloys when you are going to sell the car. If you don’t need them, then sell them on and fund the winter wheel package. I know 17” seems to be your choice, why not try 18” alloys instead and have the clearance you need.
As for using the diamond cut 19” over the winter, best option is to protect them with a ceramic coating. If the lacquer gets damaged, then the dreaded white worm happens.

Mine were mounted at the back of the wheel. The 3/4mm clearance I have with 17 inch wheels is from caliper to alloy.
18 inch is another option as again there are loads of VAG pattern wheels to fit, but a used wheel/tyre package is still going to be £500-£750.

17” wheel clearance in rear, this caliper is also a close call.
