hi im in the process of buying a 03 cupra R it has 57000k
it is due a service and i have been told it may need a cam belt change.any 1 know how much this would cost and if it does need doing at 60k
How many times does this come up????
Currently the advice is for a petrol model inspect cambelt at 60K and every 20K thereafter, change if required but must be changed by 120K.
However there will soon be new advice coming out that it is advsed to change at 4 years regardless of mileage for all models. Skoda already advise this.
but must be changed by 120K.
.
I thought it was every 5 Years?
Have a look at this:

select your car and read up.
Reports of them snapping at 70-80K
Currently for petrol cars built in model year 2000 and older then yes it is 5 years, but Craigs car is newer and falls outside this parameter (don't ask me whats changed since 2001!). For cars built MY01 onwards there is no changeover based on time, just mileage . . . until very soon . . .
. . . the 4 years I quoted will be the new specification for all cars, old and new, petrol and diesel, soon. Skoda already quote this now, SEAT are playing catch up but I understand will announce the same very soon. I believe if a dealer now called SEAT technical helpline they will say it should be changed at 4 years
