cupra R struggling to start when cold?!?!

Hi people, my cupra r has struggled to start when cold, or after its been sat for a couple of hours for a couple of weeks now and its not getting any better!! When the car is started in the morning for work, I turn the key and it just turns over trying to catch, i then turn the key for the second time, it tries to catch a bit more but just judders and missfires fairly badly, then i turn the key for the 3rd time and it starts no problem?!! Every morning it does this and when i finish from work.

When the car is up to temperature, and i start it after roughly half hour, it starts perfectly!

I changed the coilpacks with genuine ones about 8k ago and they seem fine, serviced the car yesterday with iridium spark plugs in hope that it could be worn plugs, but no different!

Coolant temp sensor replaced a few weeks ago too and no difference.

Stumped ! Im hoping there will be somebody on here to point me in the right direction, the car is also stage 2 modified with a custom-code stage 2 map, any advice is much appreciated,

Thanks, Michael

Yeah had it scanned and nothing, but this was my local garage scanning it, not seat or with a specific vag-com if that would make much difference?

Iv read a lot of people looking for faults about poor starting. Get a full vagcom scan...hows your battery? Iv read a few people have a dud battery that causes slow starting. Most battery specialists do free checks on them, may be a cheap and simple next step.

Thanks for the reply mate, the engine turns over as it should, if it was a weak battery would it not struggle to turn over? I will check the power of the battery though out of curiosity, Michael

Sometimes a weak battery can sound like its turning over as should, but hasnt got that oomph to make it go.........it might not be but its an easy check, and a battery place near me does free cranking amps test.

Sometimes it can be the cold plus the kind of fuel ur putting it, or could be the crank shaft position sensor.

Changed crank sensor last year, had it mapped by R-tech stage 2 in January so now only putting V-power nitro+ in it, it's priming as I open door but struggling to start on 1st, 2nd attempt from cold, once warmed up It it starts first time off key, someone said my battery mite be on the way out?, but it does start after afew attempts??

It takes less crank power to turn over when warm.

Have you had any issues with your alarm going off when starting? That's a good indicator of a battery dying on these cars.

There's another sensor you can change but I've forgot the name of it. My friend had the same prob, I changed two sensors one was the crank sensor and there was another, if I remember I'll let you no
