Except that Road Tax was abolished in 1937, and since then you pay for the maintenance of the roads from your council tax, and 'general' taxation from central coffers

Now you pay Vehicle Excise Duty, which is a tax to own/put a car on the road based on emissions (or engine size)

So if you want to moan about people using the roads & not paying for them - start with students, people lying about the number of people living in a household to get single occupancy council tax, self employed people abusing the system to minimise their tax liability etc etc

Its all based on emissions, had an 80s designed engine in even though was a 2004 car. The whole tax system has become unfair when you view it from our side. But when you look at it from the other side can you really blame them?

no of course not, cant blame them at all.

and its not about an increase in £10.
i think what alot of people have started to question is whether its really worth paying all this for a car which is nearly 10 years old. its the reason why ive stopped modding it as well.
like i said, ive had mine for around 5 years so ive never questioned it before. perhaps a new project is needed now

a milk float project is what is needed as no tax will be payed to them scum bags so called running the country.

amen, the whole system needs to be looked at as the drive to cut emissions really isnt working. You can see from the satria to the LCR how its worked it a car with 3 times the power has actually become a more refined engine and thats great news.

However tax exempt cars can kill polar bears a day and no questions asked, not right is it?

I know of plant that drives on UK roads tax exempt or much lower than I pay, does about 3 feet to the gallon and needs no MOT!

It doesnt really get any clearer than that yet haulage companies pay thousands in road tax so we are not worst off ;)

Its a subtle thing to basically drive old cars off the road, putting the tax up more and more until its quite hard to justify paying so much when there are 0 tax or low tax cars on the road (that no normal ****er wants coz they suck).

Perhaps there should be incentives to keep older cars running, recycle and all that, but still wouldnt make much difference to the number of new cars imported.

Its a shame that everything has increased, besides wages in most cases... sadly just have to deal with it much to everyone's dislike. :(

it does need tobe looked at as this is only based on cars ect here as foreign drivers drive for free, the whole emission's is a scam imop as the world has been going hot and cold for millions of years, what next cat converters on Cows ect lol.

once we all go tax exempt tax free cars, what next a tax on tires touching the tarmac causing heat which will cause global meltdown you no i would not be surprised on that one,
adding tax no matter what or small add's too a dearer living :(

It would be interesting to see if we all eventually get tax-free cars, but perhaps by the time that happens the tax of the "lower tax" or even "no tax" cars will have increased to what we are paying atm for our own.

There will probably never be a no-tax for cars, some way or another they will get the cash out of us.

Just be lucky you dont live in sweden or norway.
