Hi I have a leon cupra tdi 150 on an 04 plate with 120k on the clock. Past couple of days the car has been going into limp mode when I boot it heavily say past 70mph. The car drives fine once turned off and it resets itself, and when I drive the car normally it's fine also only when I really boot it dose it go limp and no turbo?!. Anyway it just when limp on me again so quickly drove home and ran vcds-lite and came up with the following fault code -

17965- charge pressure control- positive deviation
P1557- 35-00 - -

Anyone know what it means and how to fix this annoying problem ?

Thanks louma84

Upon further research it seems it's either sticking turbo vanes due to soot build up in turbo , requiring clean via a chemical turbo cleaner or an 'itailian tune up'. Or it could possibly be a faulty n75 sensor , maf sensor or sticking wastegate/actuator.

With my symptoms of only going into limp mode when hitting high speeds and over taking etc at 70mph + what is the likely cause? , have to say I live on the isle of Wight and is only used for very short journeys and hardly reaches full engine temperate that often.

I would say sticky turbo vanes......these are common for it, as it only does it when cruising id say an italian tune up may help. As long as car is healthy, get up to temperature then find a nice long straight, preferably uphill and 3rd gear at 4 to 5k for as long as you can, maybe try a couple of runs. This should get the turbo nice and hot to clean away soot build ups. It could be faulty nvalves but soot build up is most common.

Iv read to change gear at 2500 when cold and 3k plus when up to temp, this keeps vanes free to prevent this provlem.

Just pop off the exhaust downpipe, spray in shed loads of Mr Muscle oven cleaner into the turbo, let it sit for 20 minutes or so and off you go for a good razz. So far it's cured loads of sticky turbos.

if seatmans advice does not work, start saving for a new turbo as the bearings will get damaged in the end due to sticking vains.

Noooooo where'd you get that info? The car will just keep going into limp mode so wont really get a chance to roast the bearings.

if the arm that operates the vains sticks at a certain point then the turbo is spinning faster and at cold that's why the bearings fail,

vains sticking causes the arm not to fully pull in mate. i know as my turbo failed and i checked the turbo when it was out of the car it was also a garret not the KKK version which was a another kick in the nuts:(

thats why the ecu sends the car into limp mode due to improper boost at the wrong time, good in a way as it saves the engine.

Could also try sticking you hand down and manually actuate the lever (with cold engine and off) then go for a good uphill turno clean as i call it.

Luckily im only on 60k...once a month i take it for a good 'turbo clean'

Cheers for the replies chaps most helpful! I think I'll give it a good razz first , I've read to keep it at 4500 rpm for a good few minutes in 3rd gear?! That sound right? And also to the chap who mentioned about putting my hand down and manually actuating the lever , where abouts is it located in the engine bay?

If that fails I'll give the mr muscle ago , just a case of taking the down pipe off and squirting it in? Then putting down pipe back on and going for a good spin? No need to flush the turbo out before going for a spin? Anything else to be wary of as i know mr muscle is quite corrosive

Give the Mr Muscle a good while to work first, anything from 20 minutes to an hour and no, no need to rinse.

Im not sure of location, but find the turbo and it should be self explanitary......lecer/actuator on side of turbo.
