This whole thread is a pile of :w4nk: though - it doesn't matter at the end of the day. If someone turned up with a 2006 Leon MK2 Leon with DSG and a CDL Engine and K04 turbo strapped on with relevant suspension and brake adjustments, LSD etc, they would be the one showing the MK2 Cupra and Cupra R the way home. And that would be the car I would want to be in. Stealth = win.
Shame SEAT were not allowed to build the MK2 Leon with that combo of modifications - it would have been my choice if they did regardless of what they called it or where in the range it was.

I'd have: Cupra with R diffuser, leather seats like we had in our FR CR170 with seat heating, don't give a toss about the gearing differences, and 25hp can't be felt anyway.
I probably would not have chosen 19s...although I'm not sure anymore. But 18s are so much more comfy..and cheaper.
And then I'd have the RNS510 in there instead of this shitty outdated RNS310 "tech pack"
Maybe. As Oli says though, depends who drives. Also depends on how much chicken I've had in Nandos before driving. 25hp can disappear real quick.
I mean even when I got the CR170 remapped from 170 to 210... when we first got it, I'm sure we weren't any faster because we weren't used to driving the new map. So, probably drove it at about 90%. ..Until we learned

So not really. Besides, mapped, they are the same, and most Cupra/Cupra R owners do that.
You wouldn't. It's the same engine. They tune identically... and whatever difference there might be (maybe due to exhaust) will be 1 or 2 hp at best.
R is just a Cupra with a slightly harder map. Ever so slight
I'd say you'd feel it a lot more crashy than quicker day to day, standard v standard.
Once mapped, I'd say the Cupra would be quicker point to point than the Cupra R. Any small % the slightly larger core gives in cooling will be lost by the 35 profile tyres and 19" wheels

Said i wouldnt get involved but the amount of rubbish that gets said on here is unreal.If you cant tell when you have 25bhp difference theres something wrong.
Ive rolling roaded my rally car before and after mods and can tell just a few bhp difference!

Im not an expert,just joining a lot of others who think they are.
At the end of the day R is the top of the range-FACT
People have mentioned where the £2.5K+ extra is-Well knowing VAG seat prices its probably in the seats alone!Never mind the other extras which like i have said isnt just wheels and diffuser its actually quite a bit more.Different stronger/longer gears(only 3 of them iirc),different rear springs,better brake pads,more power the list goes on.
The Cupra is a very good piece of kit dont get me wrong and can be remapped to the same as a R which would suit a lot of people so if thats what you want to do then go down that route.
Cupra vs R should get banned on here,you buy what you want to buy after drivng both
