Although I couldn't work out if the crome part of the grill just clips onto the rest of it?

Yes it does, I have my OEM grill in bits at the moment, the outer Chrome bit is held on with about 15 clips, a bit of a fiddle to get off but can be done.

Currently painting it with Black smoothrite, saves buying a Cupra one

Id buy one if you made several could be quite a little earner if you had the time to do a few
