As my MOT is due soon seat told me my cv boot is split. I was thinking of doing it myself but there are kits out there where you wrap it around the joint and glue the slit down the middle. Would this pass the MOT?

Wondered about this myself. Split boot kits should get you through the MOT but opinion on t'internet seems to be they won't last and you'll end up having to get a new boot done properly anyway. Danger is that if split boot fails and you don't notice for a bit you could end up needing a new CV joint too.

How much for garage to replace outer CV boot anyone ?

its not a very hard diy job, take you 2 hours max. just need some grease and the new boot. Might be a bit of a tight fit to put th enew one on, but persaviere!

ive done this a couple times on my old ibiza, DIY job on the CV boot and it passed MOT. but as already said its considered a "temporary fix" should really get it sorted properly!

its a pretty messy job!

Had a 405 diesel a few years ago, the cv boot was burst so as it was in the middle of December i used the quick-fix(2 halfs & the glue) hopefully to get me through to the good weather. To my surprise two years on and it was still holding ok. As long as there is no grease on the edges to be glued i think they will do a turn.

Yeh I've done the outer boots on mine but ended up knocking the joint off CAREFULLY because I just couldnt get the boot over it.

Has anyone ever done an inner one as my nearside one is split, can it be changed or is it a case of a new driveshaft??
