Hello Everyone,
I have been reading this forum for a long time but have never posted. I have a 61 reg Ibiza SE SC (pre-facelift). I am quite keen to add some DRLs but only if it can be done to look professional. I think the best place is to the outside of the fog lights in an inverted L shape which would be almost identical to the latest Hyundai i10. My research has only come up with flexible LED strip (smd 5050 for brightness) which may or may not follow the contour. It needs to be about 28cm long and I think 12 LEDs would be sufficient. I would like to know if anyone is aware of anything which is sufficiently fexible but has the LEds encapsulated to give a flush appearance but still only around 5mm thick.
I also want to ask about fitting and while suggestions and comments are welcome from everyone I am hoping Techie may see this as he posted some photos showing how to remove the fog lamp grilles. I noticed there is a hole drilled in the bodywork behind the grille and wondered if this could be utilised to route the cable. Would a cable be accessible within the engine compartment or would panels underneath need to be removed ? I would also like to know where is the best place to pick up an ignition feed. I think a controller is essential and I believe they have a wire which needs to be linked into the sidelight (or dipped headlamp ?) circuit. Is there an easy way to do this without butchering the wiring?
Finally, I don't want to get into the "error light" situation. Is there a minium wattage for these lights which would prevent this happening without the need to incorporate resistors.
I would be very grateful for all contributions.
