my compressor was buggered too when i bought it, and i fell for the old "probably just needs a regas mate" :(

i was told that the clutch is built in to the compressor, so the whole thing needs replacing. is the clutch seperate?!
**** spending a grand replacing the compressor, already spent a few grand fixing other bits and pieces..

ETKA shows it as :-

You have to buy both parts which is approx a grand. The dealership reckon that the cause of the problem is that the clutch bit has gone and probably knackered the spindle it acts on which is part of the compressor. I'll check that my self before I buy both parts. You can also get it much cheaper on ebay too.

the cheapest i can get it for is €650 from my local dealer

even so, that's hideously expensive. i can live without for now..

i've had it for 8 months now, so even if it was only the clutch that was knackered when i got it, the whole thing's probably bust by now :p

Just checked mine using the same codes as yourself and got the following:-

Code 1 System Malfunction - .0
Code 20 Aircon Compressor (A/C Clutch) Voltage - 14.3
Code 22 Cycle Condition of AC Refridge High Press Switch - .1
Code 28 Engine Speed - 51
Code 29 A/C Compressor Speed - 0
Code 31 Display Check - 5 ???? supposed to light up all panel segments
Code 49 Malfunction Counter for Speedo Signal - -60 ??? Minus large 6 small 0
Code 61 Software Version - 5 3 (large 5, small 3)

Everything seems fine on mine with the front engine Fan switching on and off with aircon button plus the Compressor clutch spinning with A/C on and stopped with the aircon off.

Does this tell us anything about the codes?
