Dead Passat- Help!

Hi this is my first time on this site,has been recommended by a friend.I have a 2000 model Passat sport ( 1.8 auto ).I got my friend to plug in his his VAG-COM module/laptop into my diagnostic port only to find that port was "DEAD " we then plugged unit into his remapped mk4 gti and it connected fine.Fault diagnosis options were : CHECK IGNITION ON, CHECK USB CONNECTION,CHECK MODULE CONNECTION. All of which were fine but car port completley dead.My friend has interfaced with many cars ( Leons,Ibizas,Golfs,Passats,Boras,A4s,A3s,A8s ) yet this is the first car with this type of problem he has seen ! Anyone have any ideas or experiences ? Would be most gratefull...............

what you mean dead? do mean no response to controller?
Have you checked the fuses for car - diadnostic fuses perhaps. does the passat run and drive by the way?

Yeah no response from diagnostic port on car.Have had car almost 1 year now and no probs except lazy passenger door lock ( intermittant ).I did wonder myself if port was fused will investigate.cheers buddy....
