On the way home tonight my LCR lost all boost. There is a loud sucking noise from the engine bay. I think I can here the forge dv working but its like the turbo is doing nothing. I pulled over and checked the obvious pipes for leaks and connections. They are all fine. Really strange loud sucking noise and cold air coming through the vents with force? What the hell has happened guys, any ideas. H as my turbo died? Please help with any suggestions as I know a new turbo costs a fortune. Gutted and depressed. Engine running fine though just no turbo/boost so car struggles for air and pulls like a nisan micra!!!!!!!

How long have you had the yellow spring in your DV for?

Have you tried servicing this?

The hose to the DV isn't split is it?

I have had the yellow spring about 3 months and dv maybe a year. Cant see any splits but thanks for confirming I was on the right track with what I was looking at, does it sound like the turbo is buggered? I hope its the dv or the pipework, fingers and toes crossed.

A shagged turbo wouldent make a sucking noise, bit like a shagged hover wont pick anything up. To me it sounds like a hose has poped off as thats normally the noise, when a turbo goes in the usual fasion of shaft bearing collapse then y ou tend to know as they sound like a bag of spanners.

Somthing similar happend to me just after i got mine, the DV hope clip was buggerd so put a new one on and being me forgot to tighten it up went down the road and after it eached so much boost must of blown it off, went to set off again and nissan micra wasnt the word, had a whistling/blowing noise and was like a john deer tractor. Thing im saying is dont overlook it give all the hoses a poke and a squeeze and a but of a pull see if anything is split or loose dont jst open the bonnet n go ye there on.

when you say you have checked pipes.. have you checked ALL pipes, including those not on show?

also what do you mean by air is coming out of the vents with force? do you mean like the fan is on high but its not?
sounds like a pipe has come off to me.

yes definitely sounds like a pipe off (apart from them all being on obviously)
Can you get the loud sucking noise just by revving the car or is it just under load? if you can do it stationary then get somebody recreating it and you pin point the area of the noise.
A little test you could do is take your MAF out of the airbox (if its in one or off your air filter) run the car and then put something flat across the intake of the MAF, if theres a leak in the system air will be drawn in through it, if there isnt the car will stall.

Update - whoops - to all those who said split pipe, it was a split pipe and I have failed because my hands are too big. It was not the N75 but the elbow from the turbo to the charge pipe, melted on the underside hence the noise by the vents and complete loss of boost. All sorted for a few quid.

So it was the boost pipe from the charge pipe (over the side of the engine) to the top of the turbo. The reddy/orange pipe?

I'm just away to change my one of these too as they are subject to alot of heat

Was SFS but I left the shiny heat colar off to keep it looking pretty and it melted on the underside! So will get another one and put it on WITH the heat colar.
