Deal or No Deal?

So I've ordered a new Ibiza 1.9 TDi Cupra.

I'm wondering though, whether I have got the best price from the dealer?!

The price she quoted me for the car was £15,535
Trade in value for my old car of £8250. This is a pretty good price considering my car is only worth £6800.

I was reading in auto express the other day that I should aim to pay £14800 for the car. The dealer hasnt gave me anything off the price of the car but has given me a very good price on my part exchange.
Is it still reasonable for me to push her to drop the price of the car a bit?

Bilston.
A friend of mine works in a dealership; and the trade in price tyour getting seems really good, but because of this the base price of the car isnt really moving much.

For example; I purchased my car (seconf hand) for 10k flatt. It was listed at 10,999 - my old car was an offer of £400 part ex bringing total down to 10,599.. i ask the chappy if we ignored the part ex what could h do he went away and came back with 10,400 - i think sold my car privately for 400 quid.

Try your arm push the dealer as hard as you can end of the day your in charge as you want to buy hes not selling you jack.

A few things I would ask for if you go part ex is free tank of fuel, 12 months tax matts and push for the first service free...

So to answer your original question and it reads well... are you paying cash?

you can get it from broadspeed.co.uk for £14593, I looked on there when I was going to get my cupra 1.8t and they said £13768 so I put in the details then a day later got a phone call from a seat dealer up north that broadspeed had contacted saying that they could do it for £13768 inc delivery, I then phoned up my local dealer quoting the figure and they said if I got it from them they will do it for £13000. pretty good! unfortunately I didn't end up going for it as I got a second hand one at a bargain price.

I think you get much better deals if you dont have a part ex, perhaps you should think of selling your car privately

I have thought about it to be honest but with the costs and time involved I'm happy just to cut my losses and go with the £8250 from the dealer! I doubt if I would get much more than that from a private sale.

Don't do it, seperate the new car and the part ex parts of the deal.

Haggle the best cost on the new car, then haggle the best part ex cost for your car, then if necessary haggle the best costs for the gap insurance, then haggle the best costs for the finance package.

If you seperate it all out you will save thousands.

Then get a copy of what car magazine and check the costs that they can buy the car for and take that to the dealers with you.

Also take the phone numbers of several other SEAT dealers with you and if the deal is not going so good ask the dealer that you are sat in if you can ring another dealer from his phone as you are happy to do a deal but don't think he is trying.

If he will still not come low enough walk out and go to another dealer.

I bought mine when they had only been out for 6 months and got it at £14,400, I know others on this site have done even better.

plus cupras are quite rare, so you would have to do a bit of travelling, I was looking on Autotrader earlier to see how much mine was going for and there were 2 1.8t cupras on there nationaly, and only a handful of the dervs.

Antfr you misunderstood what I meant, I meant private sales not trade as I was replying to Hudson.

Oh IMO avoid gap insurance.... its a money maker covering the depriciation of your car.... you have to do alot of damage to a new car for the insurance to write it off these days and to that sort of damage and not be your fault (gap insurance maynot cover damage caused by you) takes some special driving too.

Save yourself a couple of hundred quid.

Paint work protection another money spinner.

The three things oyu really push for or walk away full tank 12 months tax matts and first free service. Plus as close to £1000 off.
