Hey,
Very close to ordering a decat and downpipe. My MOT isn't until next October, but I was wondering, those members who have decatted their cars, doesn't the fuss of having to swap back come MOT time bother you? What do you guys do about it

Cheers
Dan

I couldn't be bothered with the hassle, seeings as I couldn't change my own if needed.
I wouldn't have thought the difference between the decat and a decent 200 cell cat would be that much.

Didn't think of it like that. I was more thinking along the lines of having to pay to remove and refit and the hassle. Yeah if you can do it yourself or have a friendly garage then it might be better for you :).

i dont understand your question, if a said its a big pain in the arse you would still order a decat!!!

you are going to order one arnt you??

yes its a pain in the arse but only once a year,

but how often do people do there own service (once a year) and thats a pain in the arse.

any help??

My worry would be... If i had a crash and killed some body, the car had to be taken away pronto because the car got majorly mangled, they discover something which invalidates the mot and in turn your insurance. That'd have me crapping my pants and finding the cheapest ticket to spain. I personally really can't see it's worth the hassle.

not if its custom made surely , well my 421 manni decat for the fiesta didnt

and that was a pain , only ther one garage would do it all others said the engine out and all sorts

the zorst company done my bros bmw in the centre section so he can swap the cat back and fo no probs as was pretty central to locate , but that was totally custom

You also run the risk of a road side check if the VOSA people are out and about, that's if you have no cat at all.

Vosa have more pressing things to worry about than a leon with a de cat, they are interested in HGV drivers mate not cars

Well I've not actually even seen a VOSA van around where I travel frequently so I suppose that isn't an issue for me.

I have been told that with a decat and downpipe, along with a custom remap from Performance Torque, I can get around 225hp. Very tempting!

if you decat you will get more powerbut you have to tell the ECU what you have done so as to avoid the engine management light coming on.
as for the VOSA, you can never tell when they will be around. they normally target old bangers and cars that seem to look modified.
Having said that, i got pulled over in one at WEST BROMWICH just outside the stadium.
must have been coz i drove an old ROVER.
if you decat you are just gambling.

what sort of damage are we looking at for a down pipe and a 200 cell cat? ( £££? ), also if the car is already maped will it adjust itself to it or would it have to make a trip back to the garage?

Don't waste your time

Got 225bhp with a custom from Performance torque and a Piper Full system. The cat is not that big a deal. Chat with Gary at Piper, he will tell you that the cat they use on the leon systems is the same the use on the Evo 9. They tried decatting the evo in 400bhp trim, and only gained 5bhp.!!!!!!!!!

Given the lower power levels of our cars, tell me it worth while?

Performance torque told me I can make 225hp with an uprated decat and downpipe, induction kit and forge 007p with a custom remap.

I have always thought the downpipe and cat is THE most important part of the exhaust system to upgrade for performance.

The Evo 9 has 395hp, and a decat gave +10hp according to a review I read. Lower power levels doesn't mean squat I'm afraid
