Guys

Washed my Leon at the weekend and found that the roof is full of 5p sized dents [:@]

They seem to be in the metal, there is no paint damage. I am abit OCD with my car and its the first time I have seen this.

The only thing I can think that would have caused it is the extreme hail storm we had the weekend before last.

The bonet is fine but seems like the the roofs metal is alot thinner.

Anyone else seen this before on a MK3 Leon.

Think I could liase with SEAT UK re the quality of the roof's metal.

Or is it just a case of tuff luck ?

I Should go to a bodyshop and get them to check the thickness with a special tool they have for measuring the thickness of paint. It might be possible to recalibrate it to include the metal too.

A quicker fix is to go to a dealership and wander around the yard and press a few roofs.see what you think.

Eventually you'll have to go to the warranty guys for an opinion and possible reinstatement.

Also try your insurance company but beware losing more in increase premiums than you gain.

You might like to look in your street and see if other cars have suffered. If so that adds weight to your case for at least good will. Knock on all doors and do a survey.

Record date and time of hailstorm. Get weather reports.

Don't delay

Unless you can prove the thickness of the steel is less than standard then I would say (being realistic) it is something you will have to sort yourself. Even you being honest are not 100% sure when it happened so what's to say some local youths didn't entertain themselves by throwing something on there?

They are extremely unlikely to spend lots of money replacing a none-defective part on hearsay :(

Almost certainly hail stone damage. No manufacturer will warrant against this. Check other cars in your neighbourhood with aluminium roof and bonnet panels (e.g. Jaguar, Land Rover), they will probably have come off worse than you.

The roof skin is laser welded onto the body at the factory. The repair panel will be bonded on. It's a tricky and expensive process and I wouldn't want this repair done to one of my cars unless it was absolutely necessary.

On the bright side, if you can call it that, is its not broken paint so one of these dent people should be able to remove them easily and it's likely only a single panel fee

yep, should be able to fingers crossed. they use a special glue to 'stick' a pulley to the indentation and then knock the dent out. You wont see a thing and the glued on pulley just simply lifts off with a special solvent with no damage to the paint.

Ps if you are based Sussex way i can recommend someone.

Hail damage is a big problem in places with insane hail storms. Cars can often be written off due to the damage sustained. As other have mentioned you should be able to get repairs done.

Well that's what he told the wife, now if only he can explain away the boiled rabbit, he might just get away with it ;) :D

after a recent hail down poor, Ive found that my roof has many dimples too :/

If you are in Yorkshire I can recommend a paintless dent repair man with over 30 years experience. he did my bonnet when I hit a grouse at only 40mph and put a crease in the leading edge.
