Thanks - I've had a look but can only see fuses and relays. I'm taking it to a VW dealer on Friday to be "plugged in" and was told by them it should have a D-shaped (purple?) connector. Mine is a 97 model so maybe it's too old to have one?

I just need to find out why the bl**dy thing won't idle :cartman:

it's exactly where pete says

it's bolted to the dashboard perpendicular to where you're looking

are you looking with your eyes shut?

It's bloody obvious given the instructions above!

Quite possibly...

I haven't been back out again to have another look - I really just needed confirmation that it had one as the VW dealer wasn't sure and you have definitely confirmed that it has one. Lets hope my £39.95 will come up with the problem on Friday.

BTW, I've put in fresh Optimax (or whatever the hell it's called this week), checked the water, replaced numerous rubber hoses, flushed out the ISV with white spirit and still it just stops as soon as the throttle is closed.

You're wasting £40 for it to tell you why it's not idling - the ECU won't know

check & check again the vacuum hose across the back of the inlet, the ABF ecu is pretty dumb, and rarely logs a fault
