Did you get the no VAT deal?

Did you also pay no VAT on the options?

I ask because the dealer we bought from charged us VAT on the options "by mistake". VAT on Climate, Bluetooth, Metallic Paint and 17" Wheels a total of £166.06 overcharged. We were told in the showroom they couldn't confirm if the car was available (it had been ordered by another dealer). They confirmed by telephone that it was and quoted only the total cost over the telephone.

We have to accept that this was a genuine mistake by the dealer but if we hadn't checked every detail ourselves we would have been overcharged.

We had the error corrected by telephone before the vehicle order form had been posted to us. There might not have been a record that the mistake had occured but when we received the finance documents 10 days later they had not been amended and still showed the overcharging by the VAT amount.

We have received disgraceful service throughout from the dealership and had to complain to both the sales manager and the business manager about the service.

Perhaps this was a one-off mistake by one dealer but you might want to check your paperwork to make sure you didn't pay VAT on your options.

I did get a car on the VAT offer but after being told it was going to be an additional 8 weeks to the agreed date i ended up not getting it. Got a used Boca instead, however did look at adding options and they all excluded VAT.

Sounds like yours was just a mistake or a bit of a crappy dealer. Checked my paperwork from my MY11 FR TDi and I didn't pay any on my extras or the car, don't think I'd complain if I did though as I got a fair bit of free stuff put onto my car haha :)

No VAT deal is a pile of kak unless ur payin cash. They just hump you on a higher interest rate if your taking out finance.

haha looking at my paper work this happened to me, if i look at my price for my car and the finance overall i think it kind of cancels itself out haha. but tbh am not bothered my car is worth it

No VAT here, did not even pay at all for the communications pack.

Did not specify it but the car was the only one available with the spec I wanted. Told the dealer to take it off as I did not want it. He therefore gave it to me for free.

By the way, the USB connection is excellent 50+ albums on one 2gig memory stick.

Hi

davie bocanegra, I didn't know they changed the interest rate if you took the no VAT deal. The deal on the ST was also 0% finance. We also got a free convenience pack but only because no-one knew it had one until it arrived so they couldn't charge us for it.

Has, If you paid VAT on the options and your no VAT deal included the options then you were overcharged. I would go nuts if I discovered this after I had bought the car. I went nuts before we bought and re-negotiated the deal because of it. Even if your only option was metallic paint at £323.40 the £56.60 VAT is better in your pocket than in theirs.

Davie,

SC TDI Sport in Candy White.

Out of all the Ibiza models it gave me the best compromise in economy, cost and looks. So far I am very happy with it.

Nope the car was just sat there ready made lol so it only had the ipod bluetooth extra on which was the only one i wanted tbh.

It still was worthwhile for me to get it though because if i had ordered a factory build i wouldn't have got in on time for the no vat offer so wouldn't have been able to afford the car at all. Really wanted the xenons, but couldn't justify them as i wouldn't have been able to afford the car.

Don't know if that makes sense haha, it does in my head :D

after reading this thread and joking about, i just went and had a look at my finance papers- am not sure but i think i may have been charged VAT on my car, unless the paperwork is just unclear!! Going to ring my dealership tomorrow not going to go mad or anything yet, going to speak to them first i think lol

I would Has because they will try to screw you out of money any way they can. Remember they are in business to make money. I hope you haven't been done but double check anyway mate-i hate to see folks bein conned and i hope this isn't the case with you. But remember all they have to do is play about with figures to make the paperwork look good.

Used Values

Good news if you are in the market for a new Seat with the no VAT promotion many thousands of pounds savings depending on model and spec. Bad news is the immediate depreciation on all our used cars.

true on the used values... but if you think about how much you save from getting no VAT then it cold maybe kind of cancel out a bit of the depreciation.

Yeah, no problem if you buy with no vat, my 12month old Ibiza 1.6 tdi is now £2000+ cheaper new now, so it will be valued at the new price if I wanted to sell now, a big loss to me.

Hi Has

It's good to hear they got it right. I know it's not obvious when you don't know where all the numbers came from. And of course you still paid VAT on the whole deal, it's the "Allowance" figure that is your "No VAT" discount.

The figures to check are the amounts charged for each option.

Notice the Option prices without VAT have odd pennies and the Option prices with VAT are whole pound amounts. That stands out when you know to look for it.

When VAT was charged on the Options my Vehicle Order Form read:
The Car - - - - - - - - - 12,489.36
Climate Control - - - - - - 250.00 - - (whole £ amount = VAT included = overcharged)
Bluetooth - - - - - - - - - - 345.00 - - (whole £ amount = VAT included = overcharged)
Metallic paint - - - - - - - - 380.00 - - (whole £ amount = VAT included = overcharged)
17" Wheels - - - - - - - - - 140.00 - - (whole £ amount = VAT included = overcharged)

When VAT was NOT charged on the Options my Vehicle Order Form read:
The Car - - - - - - - - - 12,489.36
Climate Control - - - - - - 212.77
Bluetooth - - - - - - - - - - 293.62
Metallic paint - - - - - - - - 323.40
17" Wheels - - - - - - - - - 119.15

It looks like I might be the only one it (almost) happened to. And perhaps I'm the only one who checks all the numbers.:D

NOTE - The price of Options being a whole pound amount applies to the Ibiza ST and may not apply to the Option prices on other models.
