Digital dash - problematic?

Is the digital dash on the mk3 Leon known to have any issues? I have heard it can be flaky on the Formentor and some Skoda models. I have had a look at one in a Tiguan and was impressed. Seems a nice feature to have but I want to avoid if it's just going to be a pain.

I am interested in the Cupra 300 specifically. From early 2018 the digital dash became standard but I have seen some 2017 models for sale without it. Just trying to work out if I should be seeking out a car with the analogue gauges instead. I will be using carplay google maps for nav anyway so the nav in the dials won't work.

Thanks!

I bought a facelifted 2018 Leon FR in May 2021. In two and a half years, I didn't see any issues related to digital instrument cluster. It just worked and did its job without any problems.

By the way, I'm an old car enthusiast and I always loved analog gauges more but the customization possibilities of digital clusters are too good to ignore. If my car didn't have it from the factory, I would probably have retrofitted it.

As a side note, there are two versions of the digital instrument cluster in Leon Mk3. One is the initial model installed in cars with a build date of up to 31.07.2018, and the second one is the revised cluster that the factory started to install after that date. The new one has some little improvements over the old one and has two new views, one with the nicely squared off dials and the other is the "Sport" view which shows a central tachometer dial. I'd advise you to look for a car with the revised cluster.

Cheers,
Serdar

I can’t comment on the digital instrument cluster in the mk3 / mk3.5 Leon. However, I do have a digital cluster in my VW and it’s been trouble free and without any issues in the (nearly) 40 months that I‘ve owned the car.

I still think I prefer the analogue dials all my previous cars had - I’m old, so maybe my preference is down to my age! 🤣

I had no idea there were two versions, thanks! Is it possible to find a 300 with the revised version or would it only be on the later 290s (which came in on a 68 plate). My preference is the 300 because they don't have the GPF

I only know that the factory started to use revised version after 31.07.2018.
The cars built later than that should have the new one.
I don't know when exactly 300 production ended or 290 production started.

It would be fairly easy to check yourself by pushing the view button on the steering wheel repeatedly and look for the view with the squared off dials, as in the attached photo, or asking the owner whether the cluster has this view.

So mine (18 cupra 300) has had to have the dashboard replaced once. Thank Christ under warranty.

It just lit up like a Christmas tree with practically every warning light on. textboox IT style reboot and the problem went away btu when i reported it on the next service they told me the unit needed replacing.

The only issue i have with it now is the fuel and temp gauge randomly don't light up. The gauge themselves work but not the scale backlights which is weird.

I think its just down to luck, i got a friday one
