I want to test whether an issue I have been having is related to the MAF and some people have suggested disconnecting it and seeing if the problem goes away on a short drive. The thing is, I have no idea how to do this, I'd probably struggle to tell you where the MAF is exactly! I know it's somewhere around the air intake but that's about it! :(

Going up from the air box, there is a oval shape connector with a cable coming from it on the round piece of tubing going to the engine, it's right on the top and can't be missed :)
What are the problems you are having? As I had mine replaced under warranty last year.

danny.

Does the connector just pull off? I am having problems with the car lacking power in the lower rev range, jumpy at about 2.5K and juddering when idle.

Try the VAG COM section on this site and see if there is any one near you that can do some tests before you commit to the stealers. ..............................??

I might be trying this on mine tonight, been having problems for ages now. Different car but sure its the same/similar thing as they are all in the same place.

Shall see how I get on and report back :)

Right so I had a go, managed to take it off and go out for a quick round the block, here are some photos which should point you in the right direction. The hardest bit was getting it off, there is a small bit of plastic holding it in, the blurry photo will show you. Get a small flat screwdriver in there gently and give it a small pull at the same time and it should come off easy. Don't force it too much!

It just made the car reallllllly sluggish, absolutely no umph at all, acceleration was there but just really 'come on, do something!'

Now, i'm not quite sure if this proves anything! Can anyone let me know what this means?! To me in my case it sounds like it proves that mine it working alright?!

Sorry, I forgot to update this thread - I managed to get mine off when it was having problems and it fixed it straight away! Put it back on and the problem started again.
Getting the MAF replaced when I go in for a service. Car is out of warranty though - gutted! :(
