What could cause the connection points in the dizzy cap to keep getting carbon on them? I replaced the cap and rotar arm a couple of months ago.
Today the car would start and then die. Had a look at the points and they had the black build up (i assume carbon). So cleaned it off all four points with sandpaper and car is running fine.

I dont use the car often (once a week) so could it be due to sitting around?

carbon build up is normal, a lot of folk dont touch it it as eventually there wont be a contact, is your dizzy needing an oil seal?

How do i know if it needs an oil seal?

I expect carbon build up but this seems to be happening very often (like every 2-3 months)
