As per title really, I was interested if any of the Cupra TDi owners have any regrets or niggles.

Are there any significant negative elements in owning this vehicle?

Are there any other cars you would rather have in its place which are also diesel and of a similar value?

Thanks :)

Russ.

Oh I thought you meant disapointed because its a diesel, but obviously you dont mean that as you ask if there are better diesel alternatives. Only one I can think of is the leon FR, and then for way more money diesel audi's and beemers.

I am on my second Cupra TDI - had a 54 plate for three years and loved every minute - decided to get a 57 plate once I realised they were no longer building them - I have owned this carfrom new and enjoy it as much as the first.

What else gives you so much performance with excellent economy too.

Sorry for not clarifying... I'm in the market for a Diesel for c. £12k to replace my Fiesta ST and this appeals the most to me.

Just wondering what owners' thoughts were.

Do you mean the new 170BHP Leon?

Yeah thats the one. If you look hard enough you could get a leon FR TDI for 12k at one year old!

I plan to change my car every 3 years, 4 and a half years on still trucking on with the Cupra. Much like Mike, I can't find a suitable alternative that even comes close at the moment.

I've now decided I'm not going to sell it, instead I'll throw money at it :)

Best impulse buy I have ever made!

Just bought one :)

I just bought a 52 plate with about 70k on it and it feels brand new, very tight and no rattles.
Its modded pushing about 200bhp and 300lbs and it is very fast, handles well with uprated anti-roll bars.
I love every minute of driving it to be honest and the economy is amazing for a car that performs so well!
Buy one and im sure you wont regret it :D

my only regret is that cabin noise is above what i was used to in my Lupo. Seat could have but a bit extra money into that.

i used to own a fiesta st, and i went to an ibiza cupra tdi. I can't think of anything the ST did better than the cupra.

Still really enjoy my car after 18 months so it must be good as i used to end up swapping car every 9 months or so!

They didn't make Cupra TDI's on a 52 plate...what do you have?

Personally I like my Cupra, it goes like stink but the ride and handling isn't the greatest. I think you'll miss that from the Fiesta. I'm thinking about replacing it in 6 months (that'll be 2 years of ownership, but I had a 130hp TDI Ibiza before that for almost 2 years) with something like a Golf GTI or a 123d, but I'll be going over 12k.

MK5 Golf GT TDI's are coming down in price loads, they don't have the same power as a Cupra but it'll beat a standard one once you've stuck a remap on it, and they handle really well. Or if you like funky looking cars, new Civic 2.2 i-CTDIs are silly cheap these days!

The other option is a late Clio 182 for about £8k - it will cost less to purchase, but will cost me more in fuel and tax.

Totally different beasts, but the 182 will handle better, has more toys... it's a weird call to make, but the ST is defo going as I'm bored of it.

If you want a drivers car i'd go with the 182 or a ctr, the cupra tdi is a compromise - fast, reasonable handling, relatively cheap to run.. but at the end of the day its not as involving as the others and probably not as fun or fast, but for me it was the best of both worlds as i do 20K a year.

Don't get me wrong its still better than the ST and you don't have to drive it on the limit to have fun in it like i did in mine. Its quicker, better on the motorway and cheaper to run, thats why i got one!

I have my FR TDI now 7 months after 5 years with a Bora TDI. The FR "only" has 130BHP, but i love it, and once you've been on here a while and found out how many reasonably cheap ways there are to make yours slightly different from the next mans (or womans) you'll not look back. I have yet to ask a question on here and not get an answer. This forum has actually saved me a fortune!!!:worship::clap:

I've had my cupra tdi since november after having an FR tdi for 2 and a half years and I'm loving it, still needs coil overs though. Also I'd recommend getting a rear anti-rollbar as it really sorts the backend out.

I plan on keeping it for atleast 2 years then, possibly replace it with a Scirocco TDI which I think looks great.

I have had my '54 Cupra TDi since March and really love the car. I had a Ford Focus before and my only issue with the Cupra is the build quality. Colour matching of bumpers to main bodywork, cabin noise on bad road surfaces and various bits of interior trim that rattle and buzz at certain revs. Little touches like why no light in the boot??

TBH I can live with all this because the engine is fantastic and the brakes are totally OTT for this size car. It delivers great economy and pulls so hard out of corners and tugs the steering wheel then squirms and fights you when you are hard on the brakes. It certainly isn't a relaxed commute but it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it to and from work and the Focus never did that whilst giving 48 - 56mpg.

Get a test drive in one, that sold me!

I had a 3dr Focus TDCi 115bhp before my Ibiza FR130 and the only things I miss are the fantastic handling, ride quality and the heat leather seats ;-) actually the steering wheel was really nice and small too.

However due to some engine fueling issues I decided to trade it in for an FR TDI which I kept until I left uni and got a job and then traded it in for a Cupra TDI.
As mentioned above the ride can be abit harsh (though I find it ok) and there's abit more road noise than I'd like, its great fun to drive, has fantastic brakes and can even be economical.

Hello All,

I had a Focus 1.6 3dr Zetec, Then a MG ZS 2.0TD+, and now I have just bought an 05 Cupra Ibiza PD.

Handling on the focus was great but bit underpowered but had a nice revvy engine, but to get the most it was juicy sooooo I bought a fully specced up ZS for commuting on my placement as cheap to run and buy. Now ive got an Ibiza, fancied one for ages or a scooby but went for the ibiza with my sensible head in the end.

Absolutely love it, 44mpg being driven sportingly, 56 if im granny - its happy days. Not much on the road that can keep up except for 535d and 330d BMW's etc etc, but they are silly money really.

Little road noisy and few rattles, but as a general rule loads better made than the Rover/MG, not quite as good handling, but alas nicer ride over slightly rough roads (which lets be honest there are enough of!!!!!!!)

Happys days.

Ollie
