Hi,

I have just been given the chance to buy a Seat Leon Cupra R 225bhp for £3,500 its a 53 plate with only 50,000 miles on the clock. Is that a good price? And what is the difference between a Cupra R and a Honda civic type R? That was my last car so i want to know if its a good choice?

Many thanks,

The Type R is a balls out, thrash the tits off it racer (Well, the older ones were EK9 etc) The R210's and 225s are bloody quick, but have LOADS more torque to punch out of the corners. Build quality is better with the Leon, and they're not as intolerant when it comes to servicing etc. It's a much heavier, inert drive, but I've driven both and still love my 180, let alone an R. for the money they're brilliant cars.

Thats a good price. Just make sure its been looked after and has all the paper work, check the buyers guide out for more information on what to look out for.

The difference being turbo and TORQUE. Not having to rev the engine like mad to get the power. Take a test drive and see what you think.

Good price I paid 5 for mine about 6 months ago.

I came from years of gti6 ownership so similar transition. Didn't take me long to ge used to the lcr not having to rag it to get them to move nice place to be sitting etc dcent ca handles ok when uk learn to chuck it.

Still miss the 6 very different cars to be honest

Its a great price! Ive had the 210 version and owned 4 ep3 type rs, id have the cupra r over the civic any day!

Better to drive, smoother power delivery, nicer place to be sat in, might not handle as good but good enough, performance wise totally different!! With vtec you have to wait till you hit 5800rpm! With a turbo you dont ;)

For me the CRTs handling was it's weak point and the ride is overly harsh. The chassis didn't make the most of the indapemdant rear suspension. The engine and gear box are amazing though.
There's much more tuning potential in the LCR and a much better interior. Do a google search for some magazine road tests as they where lunched at similar times along with the Mini cooper S.

I had the choice between these two and bought the Cupra R. The Cupra is good when cruising or nailing it, but the Civic is only good when nailing it. Who drives like that all the time in all honesty? I often drive around changing gear at 3000rpm and just riding the torque. Try that in a type R. That and the 4 doors are what swung it for me. Sounds a good price. Good luck

Good price for it mate, iv been to look at so many LCR's that are low mileage and end up being crap. But £3500 you cant go wrong really :D

My lcr was £6000 back in may with 28,000 so sounds like a bargain. My mate has a type r and i have a cupra r, we both use them everyday for work. However the leon has a massive boot, 5 doors, can sit a guy who's 6ft3 comfortably in the back and has so much more tuning potential, not to mention it's a lot rarer. One of the things i love about my leon is it's quiter than my old 1.2 clio when driven at cruising speed, but when you 'drive' it everything seems to tighten up. Type r mate can't switch between the two! And you can switch your traction control on and off in a cupra r; type r doesn't have TC all together

Agreed I have had both and the type r was crap until well over 4500rpm

The ride is defo harsh light potholes will feel like you have parked in a ditch.

I would have a type r again as don't get me wrong was a lovely car but basic inside and as said by a few way more tuning potential in the Leon
