I've got an alpine mp3 cd changer and wanted to replace it for the seat one, but apparently this wont work ??????

I dont really want to spend £250 on a new CD changer as i'd like a glove box!
I was wondering about using some sort of MMC memory card reader to store my songs (or an ipod equivelent?)

anyone got any suggestions?
I know you can get Parrot Head units for £90 with MMC readers built in but i like the sound off the aura head unit so reluctent to change it.

does the aura HU have audio inputs or would i have to run something into the tape deck ?

cheers

cheers

but wont that reduce quality going through an aerial input?
So i take it the aura HU doesn't have a audio in?

I might just have to stick in my neon gay looking alpine system!

Alpine do the patch lead for the 634 mp3 changer to the seat leon with "pre install glove box cable"

part Number is VAGA4 cost £69.90 inc vat

If you order it from an alpine dealer make sure you ask for the patch cable only ( ICD ) otherwise the dealer will end up with the boot changer and lead.

thanks guys

Did a search and found this

VAGA4
Connect to Pre-installed bus-lead either in the
Boot or Glove box (Depending on model).

VAGA1
Only for vehicles that are NOT pre-installed with a
bus-lead. Connect interface to Head Unit.

so which one do i need? is it defo the VAGA4 ?
70 quid for a cable seems abit steep

If i wanted to fit the changer in the glove box would i need to hack it apart?
its currently in a 306 so has a long wire going to the boot from the alpine headunit, maybe able to use this for a boot mount if the glove box isn't an option

anyone done this before?

Hi mate

It depends on if you have a cd or tape head unit as i found out, if its a tape then the likely hood is you will have a link up cable from the head unit to the glove box this is what the connects2 box links too, if like me you have a cd player then you probably wont i got an oem one form the squalers for £20
autoleads are £39 from halfrauds best with the oem one.
then its a case of link up your mp3 player to the connect2 box press cd6 on your head unit and hours of music are to be had lol.
hope this helps.

Why the need for a cd changer in the 1st place?

The standard aura HU is garbage imo, and do you really want a tape player in your car?

Do they even sell tapes anymore? I thought they stopped selling them about 10years ago now! No newish car should come with a tape player.

MP3 based HU and you can store around 150-200 tracks on 1 cd! What more could you want? An uprated HU also gives a huge improvement in sound over the standard aura rubbish they put in!

Thanks all, really appreciate the advice and opinions

I've been a mix DJ for 12 years, I've produced tracks, and I have a little studio at home, the speakers (active monitors) i use are worth £600.......believe me, the aura sound system IMO is not crap, its not amazing I agree, but for a standard HU its pretty damn good.

I dont care much for the tape deck, i will never use it, i would rather have the CD player version. (any one wanna swap?)

Ice Cavern ... what have you got mate? i want to remove the standard seat 6 disc changer in the glove box and replace with the alpine mp3 6 disc changer, I wanted to put it in the boot originally, but glove box will do if its not possible.

In an ideal world i would just put the changer in the boot, from the sounds of it, it might not be possible but if it is, will cost me £70 for the cable. I could buy a parrot HU for £15 more that takes MMC cards.

I've been put off by the MP3 player now, it just seems a hassle to get music playing, good for long journeys but i want a quick and easy option!

I bought a little interface box for £60 or so that goes into the pre-existing bus lead and gives me a phono (red/white) output. I've got my MP3 player plugged into that with a phono->3.5m jack. The MP3 player sits in the glovebox with the remote for it (with a display built in) sitting in the instrument bin.

Works a treat!

To run a Alpine 634 mp3 changer from the Direct from the Seat AURA head unit you need..

Alpine Part numbers and retail prices.

You need two parts

Ai Net to Mbus Adapter
KCA130B - £15.00

ICD Adaptor
VAGA1 - £69.90

Any alpine dealer can order these on your behalf, But please make sure when you order them the dealer know's you dont need the changer you only want the leads, otherwise apline will send the changer and ICD Adapter through.

Hope this Helps PM me for any more details..
