I have talked about this before vaguely but...

..I have been looking for a Diesel for a while (just after i got the petrol actually 27mpg!!) and have been very tempted by the Fabia vRS but after talking to Seat about my finance and what i owe/how much my car is worth i couldn't find the 8 grand (ish) that 04 reg vRS's were.

After convicing myself to forget about it for a few years and then get a better and bigger car (Family) I just did another quick Autotrader search and found a High mileage Black Fabia vRS 12 miles from me for £5995 !

Without hesitation i called up the guy and am going to look at it tommorow!

SO ...

If I take the guy up I'm kinda swapping an '06 1.4 Ibiza sport with warranty and 8000 miles on the clock for an 04 reg. no warranty, higher insurance group, crazy white seats (2 kids = dirt!) over 10x the mileage (88000) skoda!

I need opinions please, tell me i'm stupid!:ban:

Cheers guys

that is another option as Seat said if I go for another Seat they will match what I owe on the finance and I can start fresh, one problem (a very vain one) I don't like the pre facelift bumpers!

go for seat, get something newer, its up to you at the end, although i like the vrs, over a newer sport beeza i would much prefer, and as for aftermarket warranty its more dolla at the end of the day!
So in my opinion i think your stupid!

keep your car, save for a little while and then get what you really want

90000 miles in 3 years! :-o

don't get me wrong the engine will be fine with that kinda mileage but there are quite a few parts on a car that don't like lasting much past 100k, imo!

i'd of thought you could pick up a beeza diesel with 50k for £6k, i managed to get an mine with 35k on the clock for £6k. ;)

Dont be tempted to buy the first thing you see, thats my problem, like poverty says save and get something you really want, check forums, you can get bargains and 9 times out of 10 then are well looked after.

definately wait for the right car to come along and be preparedto travel to view them!

i waited 7 weeks without a car for the right one!
i live in worcestershire, went to Cardiff, Manchester, Leicester, the one i finally bought was from London!
the mrs weren't to impressed driving me every where though!

don't do it mate, the engine will be fine but the suspension/steering and transmission will be fooked

I bet the gearstick vibrates like mad, the engine mounts are falling off, the clutch slips, and the rear suspension plays tunes like a beat box over small bumps

think about it long and hard as the money you save on derv will go on repairs

cheers guys,

I had concerns about repairs/parts too. as Nath said i'd not be making much of a saving on diesel/tax in the long run.

I think I'll be holding on for a while, the new beeza is out next year is it not? plus I really should be thinking about getting a larger car, mbe a leon/octavia/bora/a4? as the family holiday last week was rather cramped to say the least!

go for a test drive and see how the 130 tdi goes and also see how a SKODA handles the miles

I'll bet it will feel like a banger against yours, just faster and better on the fuel :(

sounds like you need a BORA. VW's underated booted golf is cheap on price, nice and spacious and with both 130 and 150 Tdi lumps in it a proper sensible choice. Your 1.4 will drop very quickly so now may be the best time to change. Plus you do have a practical need, its not just a whim like most of us on here

Just drove the vRS this afternoon.

It was a Fleet car and was well looked after, a few scuffs inside but to be expected for the age, felt similar to my car suspension wise and of course the dash is layed out much the same but when you put your foot down the car actually moves!

Very impressed, no vibrating gearstick, clutch wasn't too stiff but i suppose its a bigger one to take the torque anyway. Got to open it up a bit on some A roads and it really pulls, el rapido!

Very nice well made cars in my opinion.

The guy offered me £5850 for mine!

I laughed and said i'd call him later.

There are plenty of Fabia vRS's to choose from. Take a look at a few before choosing.

Plus new model due out (if it's not out already). This should bring the price of the older shape down.

good that you did not get the bug to just do it because it was there, have fell in that trap before, and swore never to do it again! keep test driving! the boras are lush, underated if you ask me! happy car shopping!

that is another option as Seat said if I go for another Seat they will match what I owe on the finance and I can start fresh, one problem (a very vain one) I don't like the pre facelift bumpers!

Hmm how does that work then?

If that was the case if be tempted to get myself a Leon (need the space!) and pay a little bit extra per month :D

New standard Fabias are out now yes but the VRS is not due for a while.
When the new shape Beeza comes out mine will depreciate even more. so i think now is the time to be looking.

I forgot to mention , I need a 5 door, lots of ibiza tdi's about but mostly 3 dr versions.

I don't mind paying slightly more p/m if i save on fuel and tax.

...back to the search!
