Bf recentley bought a dog bone mount, can anyone tell me what advantages this has??

Only thing iv noticed is that the exhaust is much louder when stationery.

Really im just looking for an excuse to get rid of it, dont like being deafened every time i start my car !!

Ermm.....the dog bone mount has nothing whatsoever to do with the exhaust.

It is a centrally located engine mount that helps to reduce the effect of the twisting motion that occurs when the engine is revved hard.

hey,
you will usually find a lot more vibration in the cabin at idle, for the first 200 or so miles...when you pull off (i noticed) cos the car is vibrating a bit ,it feels like it wants to stall...this will subside..

regarding your question...the mount helps to stop wheel spin, and/or the traction control light to constantly flicker when you boot it from say a set of traffic lights...

the mount calms the stress that is put on the traction control, therefore giving you a better start off the line, than with a standard mount...

hope that helps...:)

...it hasn't, but many people on here (including me) noticed a difference once the mount was fitted. I'm far from an expert but can only think it changes the resonant frequency of something somewhere, making the exhaust note sound different.

Im thinking of getting the powerflex bushes for this aswell but do not want to get all the vibration that everyone reports.
If i leave the small bush part the original one and upgrade the other bigger part (dunno the technical terms) will I still get the same or near same benefits but with reduced vibration?

Thanks for the replys

Yeah deffs notice much more noise when pulling away, did about 300 miles so far hope hopefully the noise lets off a bit:shrug:

To be honest with the vibration is very bearable and soon calms down! Put them both in, see how it goes for a month, its a really easy job to change one for an OEM if you still dont like it.

I was the same as yourself and worried about excess vibration, but its not bad at all!!

Yeh the noice/vibration will ease off definately, cant hardly feel mine now and i put both parts on.

In regards to the exhaust note, u were right with the resonant frequency aspect, basically low level vibrations are directly transferred through the bulkhead fixing, causing a deep 'hum'!!

I've got half poly, half oem and love it. No more vibration or wheel hop :)
I reckon the small oem bush will degrade quite fast though but i'm loving it so far.

Can anyone put up the part no's and rough costs and also where to get them fromk

Cheers in advance Rich

can get them from Badger5 (see section on this forum) £14.95 plus VAT plus delivery
Forge Motorsport website £16.95 plus VAT plus delivery plues possibly 10% off as a forum member.
Just need to ask for them by description
Not sure where else.

When changing this mount do you have to support the engine in anyway? or is it just a case of taking the old one off and fitting the new one?

Edit: found a "how to" guide now. looks like a piece of pi55

Well i installed my powerflex dog bone mount bushes yesterday. Very easy.
Makes a big difference. Car feels way tighter.
And vibration. What vibration? Dont feel any at all when the car is idling. Slight bit when roaming around a car park trying to find a damn parking space. But i actually like that better.
Great mod.

after a 300bhp upgrade had dogbone fitted by amd and has made massive difference to the car and traction. worth every penny and good advice to get done,,,,,,, thanks shaun

Well, a week has now gone by and the wife is now saying that the noise & vibrations are much less - its no longer a tractor!
Verdict - good upgrade, gets better as time goes on.
