Forgot to say, the stereo is now in 'safe' mode. The code we had was only tried twice so we shouldnt be locked out. How do we get the digits back up? Ta.

First off...wtf??? Radio decoding is as simple as getting the radio serial number and getting the code off of a website I believe!

Certainly, the bloke who decoded my old Focus did it that way and charged me £15. Maybe its different for Fords

Second, to get the radio out of safe mode just unlock car, get in, switch radio on WITHOUT keys in the ignition, get out of car, lock car, come back in 60 minutes and numbers will come back up. Don't leave it too long before checking the stereo because it will go back into safe mode if you leave it on without decoding I believe.

Tell me about it!! I've found a couple of mobile-companies locally who will come out, at a charge of £20-25 but even they say they arent sure if they can defo do it or not so havent resigned to getting them out yet. In fact I may consider a new non-standard system before paying that, you can get them so cheap these days.

As for the safe mode thingy, thanks very much for the advice, we'll give it a go.
I've posted my stereo details on the site recommended above, but as yet no replies so not sure if anyone actually knows. I'll have to do a Google search and see if there are any other sites offering free codes.

This is starting to get a bit rediculous now eh!! Cant stand driving round with no sounds

Don't know if this is any help, but i had the same problem. i reset the battery and then when I entered the code it went into safe mode.

I left the unit on and then then when it unlocked too it to Seat MK. for once they were brilliant. They popped the stereo out and then read the SN on top of it. It was different from the one in the manual. So they popped it back in and went inside with the new SN and got me a new code in about 5 mins. This worked first time.

The codes are generated using algorithms from the SN. They have a little application on the computer that will do it ( I Should Know i support the IT system it sits on) and they also have a master database online that they check.

I think you should back to the dealer.

But if you have no luck You can get some applications that will generate the code but on these applications it is known as a GRUNDIG Radio most of the time.

Thanks! I'll give the local dealer another ring tomorrow, hopefully to speak to someone more helpful than the girl last time. I'll tell them that the stereo is now out of Safe Mode, but we still need a code. So can they just get the code for me.
Im not optymistic (sp) but its worth a go!

Yet another big rip-off. I managed to finally speak to someone who half knew what they were talking about at SEAT (still sounded a drip!) and they will charge £35 to plug the stereo into their computer to de-code it. Stuff that, id rather buy a new stereo.

We have a JVC cd-changer here which is almost new, so we are going to see if that will fit in the glove-box slot. If so im going out the weekend to find a new black JVC stereo/MP3 player that will connect to the changer. Id rather pay a few quid more and have a new nice looking stereo, than pay those con-artists for something so simple.

Beware everyone, make sure your battery doesnt go flat!!

Here it goes folks, I hope it helps. Got the following info from my dealer in Mexico, NO CHARGE!!! your code might be under the ashtray in the center console. Pull the ashtray out and in the bottom should have a sticker with the code on it. Mine is 0777. Now to input the code, turn stereo on (car off) leave for an hour, when you come back the display should have changed from SAFE to 1000. Then input the code and the press the SCAN button and that is it . I did it yesterday and is playing again!! good luck, the dealer also said the code might be on the side of the radio unit, or in the glove compartment.
