Dont trust your in-built SATNAV Road speed limit display

Have to agree with the "obey the roads signs as 1st priority - SatNav 2nd !!

Also, it's all too common for changes in the road system, that the GPS might not be aware of, so you have to constantly be looking out for these - and just use the SatNav as an "aid".

well look on the bright side if you havent been done before you can get away with 37mph in a 30 with a re-education course.If you have been a naughty boy before ahwell 3 points coming your way. live and learn. I'm with most people though.Look for signs for speed, use your sat nav for directions.

Roads change so much that I think you really need to keep your sat nav well up to date to make it usable and as said above, don't rely on it! Mine tried sending me down a bloody farm track the other week because I had it set to give the quickest route. A 4x4 would have done it but definitely would have been pushing it in mine! I use mine for guidance only.

I know there are some roads near me that my Garmin says are 40 but I know to be 30. What's more worrying is that they've NEVER been 40, so I'd love to know where Garmin got their info from.

It's a useful guide, but I only use it in combination with my eyes.

Constant updating is the key, but as I say, it's a worry when you know a road has never been the limit that the satnav says it is.

Some systems use reports from users - so if someone flags a road as being a 40 then they use that data (dunno if they confirm it or not first).
