Hi all

Another sound system question...

I've just put some deeper speakers in my doors (and revealed the inner door panel at the same time). However, water seems to be channeled into the speaker backs.

The original speakers had a kind of hood to channel water around them. To those with after market speakers fitted, what did you do to keep your new purchases from getting soaked!?

Cheers.

Most people reseal the inner panels because the water leak is a common issue have a google quite easy to find this issue normally

Hi, sorry. I should have been clearer. I've sealed the door panel with a new foam seal, and that's fine now.

However, in testing the new seal with a hose (with the door card off) I notice water can get to the back of the speaker which isn't going to do it much good I suspect. It's this I want to address.

Ah my bad got you now is the speaker sealed to the inner panel itself

You will need to make up some sort of waterproof enclosure for the backs of the speakers mate. I don't know of one that is manufactured so i guess making your own is probably the way to go.

Fair enough. I may get some waterproof foam sheet (3mm or so) and make something up with that.

I cheated, i fitted waterproof speakers :)
Make sure the drainage holes in the bottom of the doors are not blocked, this will prevent the door from filling with water.

+1 on checking the drain holes are clear.

Water runs down the inside of the door and out through the drains. Often if you have water coming through the speaker it's sitting in the bottom of the door.

The drain holes are in the middle of the rubber seal running along the bottom of the door and tend to get locked with dirt.

Cheers for the info.

The drain holes etc are all fine. I tested it all today after resealing the inner panel and it's all working as it should. No water getting through anywhere.

My concern was for the backs of the speakers, as they are in the waters path, hence a waterproof foam enclosure to divert the water around them.

What speakers have you fitted? I would like to upgrade mine too.

I'm using Focal k2 kr165's left over from my foolishly extravagent youth! I wouldn't spend that much now I confess, but explains why I don't want them water damaged.

I like Focal stuff though, I've got some more of their speakers in my other car.
