Hi
I apologize for my english :)

which downpipe is better on basic seat ibiza 1.8t mk3 (115kw)? and why :)?
3" downpipe or 2.5" downpipe ?

i was looking, but i not found convincing result

would the 3" downpipe have negative effects on the performance of a non hybrid car?? im looking to get a de-cat downpipe soon and also will hopefully be upgrading to k03s. will be goin for the 2.5" i think but just wondering as ive heard to big a system will have a big effect one when the turbo spools etc? would an extra half inch be a noticeable difference??

well i thought i was buying a 2.5" downpipe but was infact sent the 3" downpipe from blueflame had a few fitting issues had to send it back to get flatted, extend turbo studs etc just a bit arsey but been on there now almost a year had a custom stage 2 map by jabba in june made 240bhp and 255ftlbs so seems good had no problems yet, i think its a pretty resonable output for a k03s.

IIRC people have said that the 3" DP creates slight bit more lag due to less back pressure, although not a lot, so if you're going to be going hybrid or upwards of that, turbo wise, in the future then that would be the best option, I would never go 2.5" then go 3" soon after.

I have 3" Blueflame, never had a 2.5 as i came straight from standard but i have no bad words to say about 3"

Was also worried about fitting as people had mentioned its a hard job to fit it in

Was very suprised, bolts were 100 times more accessible than the standard downpipe and i had no space issues what so ever!!

+1 to that [B)]

Most systems after the downpipe are 2.5", so isn't it better to get a 2.5" downpipe as well or wouldn't there be much point?

Surely you'd get turbulence effects where it steps down and emphasise the forced noise from the back. I'd have guessed it'd also make more back pressure having a smaller pipe after your downpipe.

Anyway, I just did a search and found this:

"Pipe diameter does have an effect on flow rates as well, but again it is not the major factor in most cases. 2.5" may flow enough for 300-350 h.p. without being a restriction. 3" is usually capable of flowing 500-600 h.p. before becoming a restriction. This is assuming that you have designed the rest of the system up to par. There are also full 3.5" systems and those that start out at 4" and taper down. Unless you are making over 500-600 h.p. anything over 3" is a case of diminishing returns and in most cases has no advantage. There is more to gain going from 2.5" up to 3" than there is going from 3" to 3.5". A 3" system will not loose torque compared to a 2.5" system if designed properly. In fact if designed properly 3" may be capable of making better low end torque than 2.5". Again, since the way to make the most torque with a turbo exhaust is to get the turbo to spool-up as quickly as possible, it should be the main goal of the entire exhaust system and good flow after the turbo is one way to achieve it. We use 3" as we want our system to flow enough to be capable of coping with a customer's changing goals. Properly designed we can offer it to the big power crowd while still appeasing the low end torque club.

The only reason to reduce the size towards the end of the pipe is for packaging, cost, and noise reasons. Tapering the diameter does not make more power, torque, or bring on boost faster. However having smaller pipe towards the end has less effect than having smaller piping at the beginning. In other words a system that has 3" pipe for the majority, and necks down to 2.5" at the end will flow enough for more power than a complete 2.5" system. The further downstream you neck down the exhaust the better……..if you decide to neck it down."

This was from this page: http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=291217&highlight=downpipe+2.5"+system

It still doesn't help me much though as I can't find a system, unless it's a Blueflame, that'll give me 3" all the way through. I'll still get a 3' downpipe though ;)

Happy days think ill just be waitin till i have all the parts together before i stick it all on n get a stage 2 map

Bolts up to a k03s fine as thats what i have now

The Blueflame 3" dp reduces to 2.5" at the end so it can meet up with any aftermarket 2.5" cat back system

Fits the blueflame, miltek etc fine

My blueflame cat back came with a small bit of pipe (2.5" to 3") so if your 3" downpipe doesnt reduce at the end and is 3" all the way it will still fit the system ;)

I need a new DP as I suspect my miltek race cat (on miltek DP) has melted giving lack of power on my hybrid setup.

On blueflame´s homepage they have both 100 and 200 cell race cat but both says 63mm DP. Isnt that 2.5", same as miltek?

Is this the same as the mentioned 3" DP from BF or have they stopped selling this. Have maild BF a couple of days agom but no reply yet.

i've been thinking of changing my dp too. Got turbo back miltek with sports cat, Was thinking decat and bigger down pipe, mines 242bhp fmic etc, will this be worth doing?? and will the likes of blue flame fit the miltek, or is it worth going custom i.e custom chrome racing/powerflow??????
