Hi all,
just looking for some guidance on a DPF Issue. I have had this 2020 pre-facelift Ateca since mid 2021 (engine code DFFA) but for the last couple of years the engine warning light has been invariably on most of the time (P2002 code - diesel particulate filter (DPF)'s efficiency is below the required threshold for bank 1). It has been raised with the dealer (Marshalls Seat) before servicing but I don't believe they ever do anything other than reset set it to get it through it's next MOT and invariably it comes back on again a few days later. With a view to trying to understand the root cause I got myself a cheap ELM2 dongle, Torque for Android and VAG DPF and i have started keeping logs when doing my extended drives to work. I do two 40 mile round trips each week to the office on A-Road. My understanding is that ideally for regen to occur revs should be above 2000 so i often drive the car in manual and keep it in lower gears. Despite this I'm not sure it's doing the cycles correctly or if there is another issue such as blocked EGR or leak. I've attached a log from a recent journey. I've tried to make sense of the data but I'm not really sure what I'm looking at. Is this normal? The car is under a service plan with extended warranty until May 2026. Mileage is 52k. thanks.

This is not true! there is a lot of people out there who give this advice and its just false!

I have a Leon 1.6 tdi and have always driven it normally for the last 11 years with no dpf issues

Same with the 1.6 tdi dsg Ateca, the dsg will hold gears a little longer but never above 2k

If its under an extended warranty then you need to push for them to look at it properly

It did do a regen at the weekend. Happened to notice the fans were running when i got back from a local journey. Hooked up the DPF app and indeed it was in regen mode so I took it for a longer drive up some dual carriageway. (wish it would tell you when a regen was occuring!) Soot level dropped from 85% down to 25% in about 15 minutes so that all appears to be as you would expect. Oil/Ash residue did not change though. Not sure what that should be normally (about 30gms at present). Warning light for for the P2002 remains on.

At least the dealer has finally agreed to look at the problem. Going during 2nd week of October. Have seen a lot of cars have issues with the differential pressure sensor failing and that looks like an easy thing to replace. Not sure if that would cause the P2002 though. We shall see what they say once it's been in the workshop next month.

Just to follow up on this, The vehicle went into the dealer a couple of weeks ago. They had it for a couple of days. They basically said that the DPF would require replacement but that it was not covered under the SEAT extended warranty. They did agree to replace the coolant pump and some blind spot sensors. Given the cost of a new DPF you can imagine I was not very happy. I took the vehicle to a local independent specialist VW garage who performed a partial disassembly of the exhaust to insert a camera into the dpf and EGR assembly. They confirmed rust marks in the EGR consistent with coolant leakage. Apparently there is a known TPI for this issue on all VW group cars. So my guess is the root cause is the fluid leakage causing the P2002 error code. As this is technically a component failure of the EGR valve which may have then caused issues with the DPF I am hoping it WILL be covered. The only has just over 50k miles. I am going to speak to them again today and see what happens but given this is a known and apparently common issue I am hoping it will be covered.

Has anyone else had their EGR replaced under warranty (and any affected parts)?

thanks.
