DPF Experiences

Not complaining but letting others know my experiences with it like a lot of others have, but It is a bit poor how there are so many problems with them from various members. Im looking for advice from people who have been in my situation really. Where to go next

I was in your situation, there wasn't as much choice back then though. I'm still happy with my JBS solution. I'm sure Shark give more power but I'm not arsed.

Also, people don't go on forums to say they've never had problems. You have a problem then go looking on forums. I hear of loads of BMs that have the same issue and apparently Alfas are bad too.

Not sure how many CR170 have issues? May just be an age difference though.

Just spoke to Shark and they were very helpful. £699 for the DPF internals removed and the remap to around 200-205 bhp but I mentioned that people said that sometimes there cars smoke when DPF removed !! They told me its an injector problem and if mine smokes they can sort it for around £110 extra and it will leave there workshop 100% which I cant grumble about !! IMO the only thing that lets my car down is the DPF so if I get it removed then it will be spot on and have a bit more go aswel I think if I looked on other forums for DPF problems they would start popping up. They are a pain in the rear tbh !!

I know JBS will also do a DPF off without remap if you're only bothered about reliability and not increased power. Insurance should be less too. Sure Shark will do this for you.

Hi i am new to this, could some1 please give me information regarding dpf, i had my dpf removed by well known company called FR&R tuning he has done many dpf removal without any problem, i went to fr&r tuning after reading good reviews,
I just had my DPF removed by them all going well bit theres blue smoke also i can smell fume inside the car coming thru vents could any 1 please give me advice on the problem please, thank you

Dpf light has been on for about 30 miles now and tonight the glow plug light started flashing and it went into limpmode, last time it stopped the car returned to normal and the dpf light even turned off all in one go but it doesnt seem to be budging this time
connected it upto Torque and the code reads something to do with dpf efficiency low so im assuming its getting blocked and not doing a regen, maybe time for a dpf out and remap

i ended up getting my dpf removed, pulled an extra 27bhp just with the restriction of the filter gone then we bumped it up a further 10bhp just to tidy up the map
would advise it to anybody as it will only cause more harm than good to our cars

Thanks for that. I'm considering doing the same ie removal but concerned about 1.Excessive noise from exhaust. 2. black smoke emissions 3. MOT failure?. Can you comment on these concerns of mine. ? Cheers.

exhaust note - slight more of a rumble on idle (but i do have a mufflerectomy)

smoke - stay around 210bhp and you will have next to no smoke - i have a white haze on cold mornings probably like most people but no grey/black smoke

m.o.t - no way for them to tell its been removed as the part where the filter sits is tucked right up by the back of the engine and then your engine undertray covers it

Reduced emissions test for cars made after 2008 are part of MOT for a long time ... and from February it will be just visual check for DPF presence.

Particle test is already part of an MOT ... As i said for pre 2008 cars figures are bit higher than for cars made after 2008.

No smoke test isn't the same.
If they had a particulate test then none of the de-DPFd cars would pass I would think.

It is the same smoke test is nothing different than checking particles density in exhaust gases ...

And they even changed limits for cars equipped with DPFs use to be 3.0 and for cars made after 2008 limit is 1.5

I can't see anything like that on MOT guidelines for cars.

They may change this limits for newly manufactured cars which are much more enviromentaly friendly but this will not apply to cars already on the road ... as they were not designed to meet strict emmisions tests which are in place for manufacturers today.

I think PPD170 is Euro 4 and CR170 is Euro 5.
