I've been looking to buy a FR and after looking at the TFSi i've decided the diesel would be better.
Some ads show the model as FR2.0 and some FR2.0DPF?
Now i've read about the DPF problems (when doing short trips? how short?) so do all 2.0 diesels have the DPF or is it later models?

I do 8 miles each way to work and back mainly 30 - 50mph so will this cause problems with the DPF?

Cheers

My base journey to work is roughly 8 miles perhaps slightly less, with similar speeds perhaps upto 80 if i get the chance  and i have never had an issue with it (touch wood)

That could be offset however as i do travel long trips in the week aswell but less in the winter.

i do 9 miles each way to work every weekday, most roads are 60 mph (back roads, downhill there / uphill back) but average 40mph on them and had no DPF problems, it does regenerate (burn the soot from the DPF filter) every 3-5 days though but that is normal.

And give it the odd blast every now and then so maybe that keeps the filter maintained :)

it should be ok, I would guess you are just on the borderline there. If you are into tuning, you can have it removed. Can I ask why you think the diesel would be better?

All of the FR 170 TDI's have a DPF, the lower powered 140 sport TDI's don't have one.

I have a pemapped Focus ST now and think a diesel FR with a remap would be better (torque wise) so i get the power and better mpg.
I did have a Jabba remapped Fabia VRS a few years ago which was great - 50mpg and 320lb/ft - this was great where you need it (mid range overtaking grunt), the ST is rapid midrange but getting the power down in damp/ wet can be a problem

Basically i'm wanting plenty of torque, good mpg, sporty looks, nice interior so i think the FR TDi is the 1 to go for

if you are doing the mileage then fair enough, with the diesel, thats why I have one. although getting the power down wont be much easier either by the time you get it to the same power as the ST! have you been inside one? the interior aint special either..

I haven't been in a MK2 Leon but i did have a MK1 Leon Cupra a few years ago (revo'd)
The only thing i hate about the Leon is the centre console part (nasty) but i suppose some carbon vinyl, etc would tart it up a bit ;)
I've been looking for a white Leon which in my price range seems impossible and have narrowed the search now to red or grey - red would have the roof/ mirrors painted black.
It would also have to be fitted with the sideskirts, tailgate spoiler and the 18s but the 2 cars i've seen are standard :(
I've seen a grey (not the silver grey) 56 plate which has heated seats, h/l washers, xenons, 20k for £11995 and a red standard with 20k (57 plate) also for £11995

are these prices ok (from garages)

16 miles a day you'd be better off with a tfsi for sure. Diesels are less economical on short journeys I'm sure. I do about 30 miles a day and I'm sound.

I'm not 100% on a diesel and have seen a nice TFSi but it has 56k (56 plate with BTCC kit) - not sure what problems to expect at this age/ mileage?

Petrols are a lot less economical on short journeys aswell y'know. I do a school run in the morning of about 3 miles there and 3 miles back in an Altea Sport TDI 140. It averages about 48mpg usually for that journey.

Just what I've heard mate when my mate had a tdi mondeo doing short runs then got a petrol after that and found it cheaper doing the same journey, straight up like.

As for the tfsi at 56k wouldn't know pal really mines a 56plate 07, done 39k been sweet as a nut though so far I think you should go petrol were rarer haha
