Drive Mode Select not working

Hello

As the title suggests, my drive mode select button isn't working. It lights up briefly but doesn't seem to do anything else. I've had VCDS plugged in and it detects the button and show's it's being pressed but says it isn't installed. I've done a bit of Googling and seen a few posts about this on Golf Rs but can't see anything about it on Leons.

I've only just got the car, it's a 64 plate Cupra 280 and I'm assuming whoever had it before me did a little bit of fiddling as the door lights are permanently red, the instrument cluster display has a carbon fibre background and it appears the soundaktor has been turned down, although Carista says it hasn't.

Any thoughts?

Thanks lots in advance.

Press and hold the power button on the infotainment for 30 seconds - release when the screen reactivates. This will perform a soft reboot, and it should work afterwards.

Yup, tried that a few times, just in case I wasn't counting to 30 correctly but no joy with that either

When it does light up what colour does it change to and then settle on?

I have seen there is a code change to have it lit red all the time no matter what mode it is in. Whereas mine is red in standard mode and then turns yellow when any other mode is selected.

The message you get saying it isn’t installed, does that appear on a VCDS scan as a fault code or on the screen in the car?

No messages or errors showing on the screen in the car at all and no fault codes. VCDS says that the drive mode selector isn't installed (or words to that affect, its got a bit beyond me so I took it to a garage to investigate it) It does show a positive reaction when its actually being pressed though so the button is working.

The garage have, luckily, got another Cupra with a working button that they look after so they're going to try to copy the code from that one and see whats going on with mine. Just a bit of a waiting game as garages are a bit busy right now and I'm impatient ?

I've had this happen to my FR a couple of times, and would have bet my left bollock a reboot of the infotrainment system would have fixed it.

Found this after a google search:

Similar issue on a Passat; the issue wasn’t resolved, but it at least shows the modules you need to be looking at.

Drive mode on my 280 Cupra ST 280 is never available until the car has run for around 30 secs but has occasionally refused to show itself at all when the button pressed, until I restart the ignition.
Is the 30 sec delay a standard feature? It may hint at Rich's issue if the delay period has been corrupted?

On the same forum there is a thread about coding from a Spanish Seat site. In there it gives you the coding for having door lights permanently red and also the driving mode button permanently red. You could try this in a reverse order but please take a copy of your long coding / backup of the modules before changing.

Rosstech also have a library of reference scans from untouched vehicles. There is likely to be something in their to compare with your coding.

This site is fairly good, single place for the adaptations too (use google translate):

Just as a little bit of an update, its still not working. The 1st specialist garage couldn't do it, so it went to the local Seat main dealer to get a full software reset. They said they couldn't do that and they they would need to know what lines of code were messed with first. They did manage to charge me a hundred quid to tell me that though so that was nice.

Got 1 more local specialist to try thar reckons they van restore the software to factory fresh so fingers crossed.

I'll update here if it works.

I had something done recently where the headlights were permanently on no matter what setting the headlight switch was in. This was after a coding session for a retrofit. I had taken a full scan of the 09 module before the changes but comparing it to the scan after there was not one adaption that was different.

The BCM was reflashed by someone who can access the VAG Servers through ODIS and he restored the software back to the original state so we put it down to an error in the software being flashed the first time around. Fixed the issue and all good since. I put money on it this is what you need so hopefully your third garage can come up with the goods for you.

Another update...

That's the third garage stumped, reckon they've restored as much as they can to original settings with no luck, their words now are "something may have broken, you're going to have to spend some money trying to fix it"

Anyone got any suggestions for anyone in Devon or Cornwall worth getting to have another look? Or, failing that, anyone want a pretty immaculate Cupra 280 with drive mode button that's just for show? :)
