Drivers door lock barrel

What stops the drivers door lock barrel doing this?



Is it the screw behind this plastic cover?



If it is what can I do to stop my barrel popping out like that everytime I shut my door, the screw behind the cover is fitted. If not what is it that stops it?

There's a torx screw behind the cover. That just needs tightening up.

Pop the cover off and you'll see it.

Yeah, the screw is there but its already fully tightened

In fact I fully stripped the door yesterday to see if I could see anything else that would hold it in and there didn't appear to be anything else. I can take the barrel fully out without touching the fastener at all

It might be worth undoing the screw as far as you can, put the lock barrel in and then tightening it up again. It might have been tightened up without it actually engaging with the barrel.

You should feel the lock barrel get tighter and tighter as you wind the screw in.

Be very careful with loosening the screw. I remember loosening and not removing it while fixing door lock but forgot to retighten and its lost so now my barrel lock is loose until I can replace it.

I'm not sure if it is just that screw that holds the barrel lock in. Looking at the screw on the other doors it has what may be a hook over it?

James can you do me a big favour and run your finger around the hole where the barrel sits and see if you can feel a metal slider? I believe mine had this and has also disappeared but I may be mistaked and would like confirmation.

I tried another screw and while it wound all the way in, it doesnt have enough surface area to secure the barrel against.

I just had the door in pieces to re-seal it and got some pics. I don't seem to have a metal slider behind my bolt, It just screws all the way flush without ever catching the barrel. Not sure how helpful these pics will be as its hard to get a camera in there but I'll post them up anyway, theres a couple with barrel and screw fitted and a couple of other combinations

If you take your barrel lock out as in the picture above, do you see/feel a metal clip on the bottom of the circle?

I can't remember off hand what was under/behind the barrel, I'll have a look tomorrow when its light and get some pics

No clips in there on mine mate, been to Seat and they can't identify the clip on ETKA, their trimmer said he just glues them in with superglue!

I also looked on ETKA and there is no sign of it there but then I can't find the part number for the screw on there either. Lol @ superglue. Have they fixed yours yet?

Well I fixed the leaky seals, thats why I had it apart and think I'm just going to glue it like they said. I only tend to use the dealers for advice, fix as much as I can myself

@Jirwin - Did you glue the barrel in the end, and where did you apply the glue?

Not yet. Haven't the balls to Araldite the barrel in, its a very permanent thing and knowing my luck something will break and it'll need to come out straight after

I finally resolved the issue by removing the door card, and the metal plate/window carrier, basically the complete innards of the door and found that this metal crescent ring had fallen off in my last attempt and rolling in the bottom of the door.
This metal ring holds the barrel lock and itself is held in place by the screw in a cog system.

It is very likely that the same thing has happened to your door also and you may find this essential metal ring dislodged or rolling in the bottom. This is why when you turn the screw all the way it makes no difference to holding the barrel lock to the door.

Its an absolute nightmare to get to as you have to totally gut the door to access and work on it as it is screwd to the inside of the door and is the door handle mechanism. You can buy the whole piece with ring and screw from dealers about £20.

That's the bit I'm missing but my local dealers couldn't ident it or promise me it came with another part so fixed my lock in with a two part epoxy from work in end

I am suffering from a loose barrel too. suspect the clip thing may have also come off because there's no evidence of it when I look through the tore screw hole described in this thread. A quick wiggle of the door reveals a rattle that may just be the part, fallen in to the guts of the door. Yay!

Jirwin - did your epoxy resin solution work in the end?
