Driver's door lock.

Hello people.......I was just wondering whether the driver's door lock can be repaired or whether I have to replace the whole mechanism.
The key can be turned either way much further than than usual, but the car won't lock, and it's much stiffer to turn than usual.
Also, is it a big job to remove/replace the mechanism ? My car has central locking.
Thanks in advance.

Why are you using the key in the door?
Does it not have buttons on the key?

lancashire.
you can repair if you have other old locks for parts , i could not find cheap motors for the locks but you can for the microswitches that fail but there is a few different types, also when stripped down i lubricate the door lock mechanical and electric side even the motor using contact oil, it sounds like yours has dried out badly seen the cheaper locks completely dry but not on genuine locks, you'd better off get a aftermarket lock and keep old one for parts , I've bought the original in past but there now silly money but i have repaired both with aftermarket microswitches for the latch and i cant find that switch anywhere now :( , also when you get lock out use silicon spry ect on the handle inside as that is spring loaded and can also seize, you'll need to reseal the inner panel as well or the door will leak.

It's definitely mechanical......not electrical.....the key turns but nothing happens.....turns a lot more both ways than it used to.

could be the barrel spray inside with key with release fluid could be stiff, also the there is 2 microswitches inside the lock they open and shut doors the barrel spindle connects to that and them microswitches rarely go as no one uses the key lol,
spent so much time faffing with theses locks i think I've been sent back from the future to fix the bloody things, call me Lockinator

Right, I've just bought a brand new remote fob with blade obviously, for what I thought was the very decent price of £95, including the programming.
The central locking now works fine, BUT the driver's door will not lock !😩
Just one question......
Can I replace the whole door lock mechanism with a second hand one without affecting the operation of the central locking......I must have broken something inside with the old key, as it now turns very freely with no spring resistance.

The whole thing is one unit, (apart from the lock barrel) so just get a new aftermarket one of off ebay if I was you. We've all used them and they usually work well. Second hand one will likely fail too, they're a common issue on all the VAG group cars from this era.

So can I just leave the old knackered lock barrel in place as I've no intention of ever using it again, now that I have a brand new remote fob ?

My car is actually a 2004 Toledo 20v Turbo but I assume that the actuator unit is exactly the same as the Leon Cupras of the same year ?
