Bear in mind though you cannot achieve the same MPG with driving modes Sport or Cupra compared to Comfort. That is because in Comfort the DSG changes quicker and thus keeps the revs at minimal -> saving fuel. While anticipation is indeed the key remember the engine mode.

Got 57 MPG with my first trip to and from work in my new 1.6 TDI DSG. Using normal drive mode, not sport. Had to go through loads of back roads this morning, my usual trip in the mornings should improve that figure. On the middle stretch on the way home (clear motorway @ 70 MPH) it was constantly over 100 MPG!

I don't really go off mpg but miles per tank. Generally I get 290 miles out of the Cupra through my average driving (mainly comfort occasional sport/Cupra modes). I have found though that when I was using economy in individual mode it was more like 270 miles.

If my understanding is correct no fuel is going into the engine when you are coasting in gear using the engine breaking. But when the economy mode disengages the drive and let's it idle, it does use fuel. So I think economy mode gearbox wise is pointless. Not sure if it changes anything in the ecu as well. I've stopped using economy mode as it annoyed me and didn't make the car enjoyable to drive, plus appears to use more fuel than comfort mode l.

All I know is that my best MPG has always been in the ECO mode which I use for work journeys, so something must work, but maybe only if you use the throttle lightly. If you drove a Prius like you stole it, it too would return far worse figures than it was designed for.

Just to add this in..

I have two Leon's at home.

1.6 TDi Manual & Cupra 290 Manual.

TDi returns 55mpg around town and 70ish mpg on a run
Cupra gets 30ish around town in Cupra mode and 40-42mpg on a run - Also in Cupra mode.

Is yours manual or DSG?

Filled up this morning and got 64 MPG on the way to work with a pretty normal amount of traffic. If I can keep it above 60 MPG on the way home I'll be very happy. Beats the 35 MPG my Micra was averaging! :D

I do need to figure out what to do about start-stop though. I used it 3 times on the way to work intentionally but it also turned on unintentionally twice: once when slowing down for a roundabout, which meant I couldn't accelerate onto it when I wanted to, and once before putting the car into reverse to adjust my parking. Bit annoying.

Well I was chuffed to bits yesterday. Usually average 30-31mpg (I never drive like I'm trying to achieve a good mileage number, just enjoy myself) but in a 300 mile round trip to Manchester, mainly on motorways I achieved 39 mpg! On comfort all the way and making 'good' progress (I don't do silly speeds on motorways, but everyone floors it away from the toll booths on the M6, right?).

Makes the car very practical to be honest.

Seat Leon FR 184

Usually getting around 60 mpg, but on the odd occasions I get roughly 72 mpg [B)]
