Hi all,

Just had my car in for a service and they said they need to do a software update on the dsg gear selector, anyone else had this and what’s it meant to fix?

Thanks.

It's meant to address the issue of the gear selector solenoids failing.

I had an issue with my DSG also. Although my gear selector components had to be replaced (factory warranty) and they also did the software update. Just like you said, after the update, the shift from park to drive now makes a new noise lol. I was startled at first a few times, but now gotten used to it; apparently, it's normal.

Not needed a new gear selector, but want I don’t understand is that is saying on vw sites that it’s removing the mechanical P break to an electronic P break, how you do this with software I do not know 😂
Hopefully done a few tweaks on the rest of the gear changes too with the update.

The park lock is the park lock regardless, it's just operated in a different manner after the update.

Is that free after warranty? That's what makes me wonder.
I wonder that too... Mine is out of warranty and it would be awesome to update free of charge
When they did an update on mine, it was free of charge. I asked them that specifically.
To note: When I said above, they replaced my gear selector components and did an update; those were two separate occasions. They replaced the parts first, and about a month later, when I had an inspection interval, they also updated the DSG, free of charge. They said it's just a part of regular software maintenance and updates

EDIT: My MK4 is not in warranty anymore fyi
