I've noticed that my car will still change up automatically when I've started using the paddles and even when moving the stick across to the right.

This seems completely illogical as there does not appear to be a 100% manual control of the gear changes.

Is it even supposed to happen or is mine faulty? (please say no )

The car won't let your engine blow up by over revving, it won't let you stall and if you hold the same revs for so long or don't use the paddles it will switch back into auto. Personally I can't see any of the above being a problem like.

It wont switch back to auto if you have selected manual. As said it will change up to protect itself and down not to stall.

It will over ride you sometimes when the system feels that you are pushing it past its parameters of acceptable gear use and selection. Mine does it. When I got the car 3 years ago it was worse for over riding, The initial software seemed to just do its own thing sometimes in manual.

18 months or so ago ago there were changes made (Had mine done when gearbox was replaced). For safety sake it can over ride you, especially if you are "Screaming the nuts off it"

Thanks guys, that all makes sense. It's just a bit annoying when you pull the right paddle a split second after it has already changed anyway. To be honest I rarely use them anyway, it's easier to leave it in D most of the time and use the paddles to drop a few gears to overtake people

Christ a new gearbox! Had to do that on my old car, an Alfa Romeo 147. I don't need to scream the nuts off this car though because it is miles faster than what I've had before (bar my Audi S2)

The only way it's going to change up is if you're taking it right into the redline... why would you do that? It's not like there is any power there to be had, and it sounds terrible + is not a great way of looking after your car...

noob

there are only a handful of automatics that give you proper manual control , all of them are sexual sounding engines though.

Yeah mine will either do a 'Bwoaaaarr' or if I floor it while under about 2000 rpm you'll hear the supercharger whine then the whoosh of the turbo.

I still would have chosen a manual if there was the option, but having the DSG is some consolation for letting your left leg whither away through lack of use.

The 1.4 sounds good..... for a 1.4

Like the man says Not exactly a Lambo or dancing pony car :eek:S More of a Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaarp than a Bwoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar
