Good morning, all.
I am wondering if someone can help me with my pre retrofit thoughts, I've been lucky enough to find and purchase a 2019 Seat Leon FR steering wheel complete with loom and air bag.
I roughly know what I am doing to make the paddle shift retrofit work, however I had a train of thought that has made me question something, for context I have a 2019 Seat Leon Xcellence Lux, and on this trim level it has keyless start, now I know that when the car is completely switched off the steering wheel puts itself into locked position by itself no need for the usual turn of the wheel to engage a steering lock. I did see a guy dressed in a shirt and tie do a paddle retrofit in a 2012 Passat on YouTube and he claims you don't have to disconnect the battery as the wires are essentially failsafe I do not remember what he said, but I do know that probably best course of action is to disconnect the battery, which brings me to the point of this post, if the battery is disconnected in my mind the receiver that detects the key to unlock the steering wheel when you want to get in and drive is no longer able to detect a key therefore not allowing for the steering wheel to be turned whilst the engine is off, do I have a flaw in my thinking or is there a way around this? or maybe even the guy with the 2012 Passat was correct and disconnecting the battery is unnecessary after all the thing didn't go off in his face when he did it.
Any information or insight will be very helpful and when it is complete I will have the airbag from the Leon FR available to a good home if anyone needs one for a small price.
Thank you
Bradley
