You're right it's not so depressing, my old 306 with 135BHp was worse on fuel than this one, suppose I got too comfortable with the 1.4 Fiesta and its 40 mpg. That and the cost of fuel has gone up a ridiculous amount since I bought the Leon.

I'm following rpmleon and trying regular unleaded to see if there's a performance/consumption hit. so far I'm not seeing either..... but I've only covered 70 miles since filling up.

consumption in the high 20's!

it's only being used for the school run most of the time (5 miles each way) and probably never get's warmed up but we're averaging 16mpg!.

:-o

Must admit that a 10 mile round trip each day would possibly account for your low overall mpg, especially in cold weather. As you say the car has not really had chance to warm up.

I would be interested to know though if (with so many short trips) are you experiencing any "oil emulsification" (A whitish/grey build up on your oil filler cap).

No update yet this week. Due to travel up to the Midlands next weekend so intend to take full advantage of the "5p off a Litre" Token I have from Tesco. :D

Will post as soon as I fill up :)

Interesting stuff.

I had the car for 2 weeks (45 mile round trip for work) and got the overall average up to 29.5mpg. That's 20 miles dual carriageway, 20 miles winding backroads and 5 miles town driving every day. There were even a couple of days where the computer said I was averaging 34.5mpg! I'm quite happy with that considering the power on tap.

The other half is now driving it for 2 weeks so the average will no doubt be going back down as it's all town driving for her.

4th fill today (to the brim) :D. And guess who could'nt find his "5p off a litre" coupon when he needed it

296.7 miles - 47.71ltrs = an average of 28.27mpg

Almost back up to what it was 3 weeks ago :D. The milage is made up of 3 or 4 40 mile+ round trips. The remainder, short(ish) trips only. We also had 3 or 4 very cold mornings over the last 2 weeks.

Running figures since start:

892.3 miles - 148.55ltrs = an average of 27.31mpg

Onboard computer average for the car since new (5,834 miles) = 28.7mpg

Due to do a run up to the Midlands this weekend so expect to update on Sunday evening.

5th fill today (to the brim) :D. Following the trip to the Midlands.

225.1 miles - 36.481ltrs = an average of 28.05mpg

Mainly motorway and duel carriageway. Clear run both ways but wet and windy on the return journey. Still managed to maintain a decent "safe" speed though :)

Running figures since start:

1117.4 miles - 185.03ltrs = an average of 27.45mpg

Onboard computer average for the car since new (6,059 miles) = 28.7mpg (still!)

Probably not got enough data yet to say for sure but the last two fill ups have been 27.8 (normal day to day work commute) and a 32.9 (Devon and Back).

So at present there's no discernable difference in consumption which would make normal unleaded better value for money.

Drivability is a more tricky one. On my commute there's no difference in power delivery, but then I'm either crawling along or accelerating up to 70 or 40 in traffic. On the odd day the slip road onto the M5 is clear and I get to boot it, the power is there but there's not quite the same sense of urgency as you get into 5.5 - 6k. Some days are worse than others, but then I had that with SUL and every car I've owned (you know that "off" feeling a car can have?).

Are you still running Super Unleaded Mat?

  Sorry mate. Just re-read your post on 27 Feb

Change question. Are those figures since you changed to normal unleaded ?

What type of fuel are you using? Super Unleaded (98/99 Ron) or Normal Unleaded (95 Ron) !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've always used 95RON. I think I said that in my first post in here.

Our overall average is actually up to 30.1 just now. The missus must have been taking it easy!!

Now Annoyed

:censored:

Ok peeps. My onboared computer seems to have automatically reset my "average milage since new" totals which (if I have read the manual correctly ) it will do after 99 hours of driving. Or, me being a plonker, I have accidently held the button to long.

Don't think I held the button to long but, at my age, who knows .

Got worried the other day when I decided to check and found it indicated 21.5mpg. Realised what had happened when this tended to change with the "current journey mpg". After a couple of days my overall mpg seems to be settling at about 27.8mpg.

The worrying thing is peeps. When I started this thread on 3 Feb 08 I had been running my car (for 5000 miles) on Super Unleaded which, at the time, was approximately 8p a litre more expensive than Normal Unleaded. Having seen the latest price increase at my local garage I know that my next fill of Normal Unleaded will now cost me the same as Super Unleaded was 2 months ago (nearly) [:@].

Also, as a person who "reluctantly" changed back from diesal to petrol. There is currently an 8p gap between "Normal unleaded" and "Diesal" price per litre at my local. Consequently, as a low milage driver, I feel I made the correct decision because (I personally feel that the government have renaged on their promise) that people who bought diesel cars would benifit from cheaper fuel.

OK. So I dip out on car tax. But I believe that the performance of the petrol DSG (even on unleaded) is worth the extra £100+ a year).

Truthfully I thought I may keep the Leon FR DSG for 1 year and then upgrade to the Leon Cupra. Errr is that a 7 speed DSG Bocanegra they are thinking of introducing next year

Melon,

I agree totally with what you say... The Gov't must think we are all stupid - Green Taxes are the biggest fob story I have ever heard. If they were serious about the environment they would channel every penny from these taxes in to public transport and they would halt any plans to expand our airports...

As for trading up to a Cupra - you may regret it. Not because the Cupra isn't a great car - it is. I was always going to upgrade from my Golf GT2.0TDI to a GTi but when I got in one for a test drive I was completely underwhelmed... It was too similar to what I already had. For me, a new car has to be, well, new!

i shouldnt worry about buying petrol/diesel too much anyway. we all know itll run out before too much longer but before then we are all going to be using this new wonder fuel, H2O.
sooner the better imho. i guess theyll put the prices up tho.
