Different strokes for different folks. I don’t think there is much argument about a proper remap being superior but for convenience a box wins... especially for people on a lease and also now that they come with Bluetooth control.

They have come a long way since plugging into 1.9 diesels

Exactly pal. Couldn’t have said it better myself. Come a hell of a long way. Figures to a stage one map are more or less the same.
 
Lol says who?? I’ve been using them for a few years pal and they’ve always been fantastic with better figures than JB boxes. Reason I know is as I’ve had them on my Mk7 Golf GTD and Mk7 Golf R. Plus Mk3 Focus RS and now my Cupra. Think I’ve got it tried and tested.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the DTUK box never adjusted any fuelling and simply raises boost levels in the hope the ECU will adjust its short term fuel trims to compensate often resulting in lean conditions? Of course these short term trims are glaringly obvious to Seat when they run diagnostics?

Again, it's been a while since I used a DTUK they may very have changed since then!

My dealer barely manages to service my car properly without input from me. Chances of them noticing anything I would have thought are slim.

There is the answer, fit a tuning box and drive to the corner of south east Kent for servicing and warranty work ... I’m being slightly sarcastic, they do a decent enough job, once I remind them it’s a Cupra and not a 1.2 SE.

If the box is removed before it goes into a workshop then they can suspect but they can’t prove it right? (I don’t think)

Absolutely, they can only speculate, ive heard talk of a TB1 flag, which, as you guessed is a tuning box flag, but I've never heard from someone who's has had it!

I thought the TB1 flag was only present on a conventional remap? Someone with more technical knowledge may be able to confirm.

Your thinking of a TD1 flag, they also have a TC flag for the dsg box! Apparently anyways!

There are many flags in the VAG arsenal (see below)

This issue has been talked to death over many many years.
VAG are always on the lookout for ways to not pay out.
When every you modify your car you take a risk that's a fact as long as you are happy with that risk then carry on but its a risk....

I'm sorry to hijack the thread....

If I were to have mine remapped, would the dealer 'wipe' the remap when I take it in for service?

I'm on a lease - I don't have an issue with having the remap done but I don't want to lose it and have to have it remapped again every time I get it serviced, which in my case is every 10k miles...

Depends on where you go and if there's any software updates to install. You'd be surprised how many dealers are "map" friendly these days. Just tell them its mapped and you don't want it touched. If they look at you blankly go somewhere else. On a side note, I went Revo. If my map gets wiped, I can have it reinstalled (because my car has the license registered to it). BUT, I would have to pay for the garages time, eg an hours labour. But that's not £500.

You don’t have no worries if you have the tuning box as it can simply be taken off and put back on again. A custom remap is overall better but the convenience of a tuning box whilst the car is still under warranty is so much better and easier.

Not quite accurate, vag can recognise if a box has been on, there is a flag for it too as per the old boys post above

That's my understanding too... If they can detect the box (regardless of whether or not it's been removed or not) then I'd prefer just to have it remapped as it will be tailored to my specific car rather than the generic make/model

I have a DTUK box on my st 280 dsg, love it and no issues. I run it on 1+3 and the power is great. It is alot faster than standard, but wheel spin isn't anymore which is strange . As for fuel economy I find it about the same. With it being on +3 on the map, which is the highest power setting.

Do you have the FSR+ box? I’m trying to find a happy medium. Like not too much power low down with loads of wheel spin but with a nice amount and more mid range power. I’m on 2+3 at the minute I think. It can be a bit jolty at times under light and heavy acceleration. I’ll try in the 1’s like you say then pal. Definitely trying to find a programme with silly wheel spin.

On tesco 99 and Costco 99 it is really noticeable. Where as on BP ultimate and Sainsbury's super it doesn't happen. I can't notice any power different between the 99 and 97 fuel with the box either.

Yeah that’s the one pal. Would you say that’s about the best setting then? As I say I want to try and avoid the wheel spin at low revs but still have nice pull and have more quarter to mid range power. Yeah I find that jerk annoying under half throttle. Would prefer to try and find a setting where there is none. Yeah I only use shell v power.
