After hearing a few rumours about EBC making disk for the LCR I decided to get in touch with EBC uk. They have been approached by numerous people and are currently entering the last month of development/testing for the 323x28mm disk for the LCR.

Prices will vary depending on tooling required to make these but they have informed me that they are hoping to be cheaper than dealer supplied products.

They will be offering ‘turbo grooved’ or ‘turbo grooved and pimpled’. Please note they are not drilled but are cast with dimples rather than holes to avoid cracking issues.

I hope to here in about two weeks for the exact cost and they should be fitted in around a month or so. So watch this space as I will post up any new info I get.

that is cool to hear BUT...

im afraid to say iv heard more bad than good experience about EBC. for example i know someone who has had 3 pairs, yes three pairs of turbo groved discs warp on them!

i also was not impressed with the green stuff pads... i thought they were nowhere near as good as the OE ones in my rovers gsi.

that said... depending on the price of these discs compared to other groved/drilled ones i MAY be willing to give them a go!

has anyone else had good/bad experiences with EBC?

"generally" discs warp due to user abuse ,i had a set of turbo grooved and dimpled on my ibiza and they were fine ,including some track days.the pads however i agree "were" rubbish and i have no intention of trying them again to see any improvement.

the complaints I heard were of a popping noise?
they thought it was hot air being trapped in the dimples when they were hot?

well out of the following:
standard
zimmerman
ATE power discs
the EBC came out tops IMHO(closely followed by ATE)all with pagid blue FR pads(after binning the ebc greenstuff).both cars had the same hoses pads and fluid, but one was 20kgs heavier i felt the ebc discs faired better.

I had a set of EBC disks on my MK1 Golf GTi and they were still on the car when I sold it, but I went through 3 sets on my Civic VTI. The only good thing was that they came with 12 months warrantee so when they went I would just get them replaced. :D

Brakes or no brakes

Its about time somebody started making them as this is a nightmare situation for LCR owners only having a limited choice.
Other things on my mind at the moment though, as in my temp guage hit the limit and warning sounded.
Rang dealer, who suggested I ring Seat Assist and get the car brought in by the AA.
AA came and towed me 25 miles with hardly any bloody brakes and no power steering. Arms feel a little strange now to say the least -Anyone driven LCR 25 miles without power- behind a yellow van that is only a few feet away-scary putting all your trust in someone elses driving at 40 mph.
Looks like dredead water pump failure -24000 miles -sounds about right-
Given a bitch of a Renault Modus by AA (avis)-Ugliest car Ive ever driven- sorry but it is.
Why cant the dealers give a courtesy car for a few days.

I've run quite a few disc myself over the years. never tried the pagid discs, but EBC, a few tarox, ate, and a few brembo's (and whoever make the slotted stoptech's I'm using now).

Brembo's are OK, tarox are pretty much rubbish (used the sport japan and G88), EBC where OK (wouldn't say that about pads though, not even on my mtb), thought the ATE were very good.
