Eco 150 TSI 1.4 Rattle

I have a 2015 Leon FR 1.4 TSI 150.

I have no performance issues at all. Simply an annoying rattle.

After reading threads on the issue of a rattle noise that only appears when the car is in ECO mode, i this morning looked under the bonnet and recorded this.

I would assume this is the issue.

My warranty expired in July.

How would you guys deal with this issue?

You are missing the circlip that is supposed to hold that lever onto the peg, mine rattles a little in place but can't be pulled off like that.

Someone else tried attracting molegrips to that lever, it still rattled. Another got Audi to replace the whole turbo on their S3, as it was the actuator rattling.

Is this something that is easily fixed or am I going to shafted for a new turbo?

It's only done 20k miles and only went out of warranty 5 weeks ago so I would be gutted and would feel like complaining to seat as the car has been meticulously looked after.

Like I said earlier... no issue with performance etc..

Its a hopeless fight with seat.they avoid any warranty jobs.seat uk cant contact with seat bham to get my car back and fix it.

Seat would probably reject a claim for a new turbo, there isn't anything wrong with it other than making an annoying noise. I'd just spent 2€ on a new circlip and ignore the rattle.

Mine is 2018 facelift and has a circlip holding the lever on.

We talking 2 different clip.
Available fixing clips for hold the rod but not for facelift cars.

And main problem the actuator not hold/pull the rod all the time and freely move and rattle.

The clip isnt a big job so I guess I will have to go down that route and hope it clears the issue.

Is there any particular reason that symptoms to the lack of a clip only show themselves when I'm in eco mode?

Just for clarity this issue will not damage the turbo will it? I.e. I will be leaving it until wednesday (i.e. till the part comes) and i will not drive if it's going to cause any major issues

The description in the listing says its for 2.0l engines with the BorgWarner turbos, I think our 1.4s have Mahl turbos. If the seller does returns you could just buy one for the sake of a tenner and if it doesn't fit send it back.

I think I have a spare turbo in the garage from a 1.2, if I'm not mistaken it's the same as what the 1.4 has, if you send me a photo of your turbo's rod I'll see if the turbo I have has the clip you need and if it does I'll send it you for nothing.

Just wondering if looking at scrap yards would help i.e. taking one off a wrecked 2015 leon would help if yours doesnt fit

No worries. I'd imagine it did come with one originally but I wouldn't be surprised if they forgot to put it on, one of the screws was missing in my passenger footwell. The turbo I have is a 2013 one but I don't think it changed throughout the years, the turbo that replaced the one I have was a 2015 one but if anyone knows any better feel free to correct me.

Mine developed the rattle over the past year. It only appears in 2 cylinder mode with slight pressure on the throttle - esp noticeable in 30mph zones. Dealer couldn't identify it whenever it was in for a service!!

Hi All,

An update..

As per video my movement was due to a missing circlip.

My mechanic put a new one on for me and we went for a drive.

We can still hear the rattle on ECO mode.

He is 99.9% sure that the movement is from within the actuator itself.

He also advises me that apart from the annoyance - there is no immediate worry as everything is still functional - but if I am committed to actually stopping the rattle, i need to find out if I can actually buy an actuator because apparently with fords (his specialty) you cant buy them separate.

So my questions are the following:

• Can you buy the actuator separate? if so does anyone have a model number or link for my1.4 TSI 150.
• If this was your car what you do? As I mentioned no drop in performance or lights etc.. simply the rattle but I like everything perfect so I know its going to grind on me if I dont sort it.

Mines rattled from brand new, so even if you replaced the actuator there's no guarantee you won't get the same problem again.

I tune it out, nothing is going to happen - it's just annoying.

Actuator come with turbo as full unit.
However i will do a video and i will go back seat uk if they still not fixit it happy to open court case.

I just think to find more owner with same issue and take the seat to court as a group.proper disgusting to say this just a seat so be happy with the crap.
My car sometimes loose power and feel no turbo pressure properly.
22.000 miles in the car and since 8.000 miles rattle. We have another leon with 18.000miles and no noise.
